Tanginoaa And Sio Gone---Why?

Eels Move Forward In NYC Finals report glowing accounts of Kelepi Tanginoa performance. Why has our club let a young local product with real ability leave to go elsewhere? If he continues his development he is certain to come back and haunt the Eels. He is gone and we sign some ageing and unknown reserve graders! Ken Sio is another young local product with good ability who has left the club. Why? It is said the club is seeking to sign M Duffy from the Storm to replace Sio. Duffy is said to be injury prone.Hardly a good swap! Why train local products if there is no intention to retain them? Our administration needs a good shake up.

  • Can't retain all of them. Unless about 20 players are happy to knock back decent offers to play 1st grade elsewhere so they can play reserve grade at Parra.
  • Sio was dirty that semi got offered 250k in essentially he's first year and sio thought semi is worth that he's worth more and the club weren't gunna pay big dollars for sio. I like sio but happy we are not paying overs just to keep players.
As for kelepi he's been playing front row for NYC and personally I think he would struggle in first grade
  • Wiser men than us are making decisions at the club Robert.
Some on here think it was a good move but I reckon it was an absolute idiotic one and it will come back to haunt us.
Saving pennies for the big signings like Shannan McPherson, Cody Nelson and the geriatric Watmough.
    •  It`s a matter of opinion Frank that they are wiser men than you or I. In fact I don`t have a high opinion of coaches generally. I think the best of them only have about a 5 or 6% positive effect on their team. Some have a negative effect!! All are grossly overpaid for all the good that they do. They get money for jam. But if clubs are willing to throw money at them, the coaches have no option but to accept that money. You see the coaches on TV after each game. Very few give to me the impression of being wise. A coach must be naive indeed if he expects all of his roster to be gentlemen of the highest calibre at the beginning of each year. Particularly the young ones, who give the impression that youth is wasted on them. It`s the coaches responsibility to overcome those problems and get them back on the rails. In the case of KT, you would go that extra mile to get him right given his talent and ability. Ham says it was a salary cap problem! Why would you cut the top talent to fix that? There must be many U20 player that could have be cut other than KP?

  • In respect to kelepi I agree. He is a rare talent. Sad to see him go.
  • Kelepi = Salary cap reasons. Shannan McPherson, and Cody Nelson won't be taking Kelepi's spot, Tepai Moeroa, Manu Ma'u, and Kenny Edwards would be taking some of the money that from Kelepi's salary so they can all be upgraded to the Top 25 next year and the year after. And then we need someone to take their spots outside of the Top 25 so that's why those players were signed.

Duffy wouldn't be replacing Sio if we do in fact sign Duffy. I'm going to say that Radradra takes Sio's spot in the Top 25 seeing as Semi was outside of our Top 25 at the start of this year. We then need someone to take Semi's spot of a back-up outside of the Top 25, Duffy is an okay player to put in this place as he's played some first grade but is injury prone so he will take less money and if he works out then he may nab a wing spot, if he doesn't work out then he isn't in our Top 25 so it doesn't matter if he was signed or not.

Every club makes signings like: Shannan McPherson, Cody Nelson, Beau Champion, and Matt Duffie. I'm sure their supporters also carry on and whinge when they're announced too.

Who the f*** is Jonathan Reuben?

    • Well said Ham!
    • Didn't Cody Nelson get confirmed as a 25 contract?

  • Kelepi didn't expect to be gone. He told me he was staying a few weeks before the news came and it wasn't like a cover up. His words were when I asked him if he was leaving - "nah mate I'm here next year but Kenny Sio is going". That was how I scooped the sio signing. We then talked a little about his injuries stopping him from playing this year. I'm sorry to see him go. His power and pace against the cowboys was awesome.
    •  sixtiesboy  What happened to change the situation from " I`m here next year" to he was going?
