First things first... The Storm cheated the cap and I agree completely with the decisions made and punishments meted out to the Storm for their indiscretions...

Having said that, I read about an interesting concept that the Storm players have initiated which I think should be applauded.

For the remainder of the year at every home game, their sponsors will donate money to a selected charity based upon how many points they score in those games, For example, against the Doggies they are going to give $12,500 to a Melbourne charity.

I cannot imagine how difficult it must be to know that you cannot play for points this year. How the players motivate themselves through every little niggle and injury to persevere is not known to me but I think this sounds like a very note-worthy, admirable concept. Please do not think that I want the Storm playing for points as I agree with the penalty whole-heartedly but can also acknowledge the complexity and difficulty for those players who genuinely did not cheat the system.

Given the Storm just beat the Dogs with a second rate team and given our own sparkling form (he said with a knowing wink) I have some trepidation looking forward to this week. All in all though, I think it is these types of concepts and ideas that should be highlighted more and see the positive contribution that League continues to make in our community.

  • Probably another ploy for the Storm to claim victim status. "We did nothing wrong sir, now look how much money we are giving to charity".

Wouldnt surprise me if they are in a deal with Jayco to skim the top of the donations either!
