St George Illawarra have landed a huge recruitment scalp by securing Australian star Keaon Koloamatangi to a long term near $5 million deal.

It is understood that Koloamatangi has told the Dragons he will join the club from 2027 on a five year deal. The contract is now in the cooling off period.

It is a clear circuit breaker for the Dragons who were in the market for a marquee player.

Koloamatangi’s current club South Sydney wanted to secure him as did Parramatta.

The Dragons though look set to land the prized recruit after gazumping the Eels and Rabbitohs with a monster five year deal

  • I'd try get Xavier Willison, 3 years, 800k, get him to leave Broncos a year early.

Also the two Laulilii brothers, one is a prop.

Or Shawn Blore, push Jack Williams into the middle.

    • Willison will be a starter at Brisbane, he won't go.

      Laulilii brothers don't mind.

      Blore I like.

  • Meh

  • Mark and jim couldn't organise a root at a brothel

  • I'm glad. KK is a good player, but not worth $1M per season. To justify that sort of money you have to be a game breaker and he's no game breaker. Good news.

  •

Keaon will be 28 at the start of next season, but, he’s played most of his career on an edge, and, has only really been a big minute player the last 2-3 seasons - a middle for 1-2 seasons? His best years are ahead of him.

A lot are judging Keaon’s worth but Jason Ryles believed he was worth 1mil a season, so he is worth 1mil to the Eels a season.

Ryles knows what he needs, and what a player (and position) is worth in his system. He is living a breathing the success of this roster, and like many of us, clearly believed KK improved our chances of success - which in turn improves our chances of signing more talented players.

That’s what matters. The coach, who we all back & believe in, wanted KK at the club & felt he was worth big $$.

Keaon is an experienced rep player, heading into his prime, and is a pack leader - exactly what the Eels need as Paulo is in his final seasons, with young middles coming through.

No wonder Ryles was willing to spend here.

It’s another public misfire, and Keaon specifically aside, one I’m not sure we could afford.

This is very disappointing on many levels.
    • Well said. If Ryles wants a players it's the club's job to land him. The club is letting down our Coach. Ryles must be wondering why even bother trying to sign elite players.

      • NOS - this comment should be in Big Black Bold type. You nailed it perfectly especially the comment. I'm not sure we could afford it! ie afford another miss of an Elite player.

        • In Black bold type and in 36pt so the numbskulls can get it into their heads.

          • 🤣🤣🤣
