St George Illawarra have landed a huge recruitment scalp by securing Australian star Keaon Koloamatangi to a long term near $5 million deal.
It is understood that Koloamatangi has told the Dragons he will join the club from 2027 on a five year deal. The contract is now in the cooling off period.
It is a clear circuit breaker for the Dragons who were in the market for a marquee player.
Koloamatangi’s current club South Sydney wanted to secure him as did Parramatta.
The Dragons though look set to land the prized recruit after gazumping the Eels and Rabbitohs with a monster five year deal
MORE TO COME

What the hell is wrong with this club honestly, we were favourites for Galvin, Pezet and Keaon and we managed to stuff it all up. We currently have no backline depth with Lomax leaving and Russell soon to be leaving and all we have signed is Brian Kelly, that's not even confirmed yet. And we are still fiddling around with this five-eight bullshit after Pezet leaves. We haven't signed anyone for 27. We sure as shit not signing Tino and probably won't even sign Murray Taulagi or Jason Purdure.
we are a worse team than last year then in 27 we might even look like an even worse team then 26 and Mitchell Moses is getting up their in age he won't keep his dominant performances for very long
All those issues are nothing to losing KK when we didn't really know whether we were do the right thing.....what actually do you think the R&R did wrong in this case?
PS i would probably would have liked him and can see the benefits as well as the dangers, but it seems we were outbid...shit happens!
Pops I think your just playing the otherside to keep people honest. I cannot believe that you are not a little bit concerned about the amount of players they have negotiated with to come up empty. I for one don't need to know exactly what they did wrong in R&R, i just need them to know what they did this time and previously and go about quickly fixing it.
'Even if they are doing nothing wrong , then they are not doing enough and that maybe just as bad. Either way at the very least, the optics are terrible and reputation damage is happening to whomever is in charge of negotaiating and closing the contracts. Like a snow ball rolling down hill the problem is just going to keep getting bigger as time goes on. The more players that shun us,the more our reputation as a destination is diminished.
Well Bluey, the player we lost this year that gives me the greatest concern was Lomax, I am pretty comfortable with our forwards. There is something about the Lomax exit that we are not privy to, so I suspect it is in the uncontrollable basket. He should never have been allowed to leave other than they wanted/needed him to.
The only reason I am disappointed in not getting KK was the optic's, its hard to understand the critique of the R&R when they are selling an image on a destination that is obviously not attractive.
Some of the comments on here are pathetic, making out he was a bad deal because he was 29 was ludicrous when compared to our roster but we do have good young forwards coming through that can equal KK who is no super star. We agreed when De Belin was recruited that it gave us a breaker for our young forwards that are actually ahead of schedule. De Belin will be a fantastic buy for 1/2 years, watch how our middle defence becomes watertight. The alternatives and real problems are backs and the fact that we cannot replace Lomax at this point in time. We need to be working on that now, even if its 12 months away. One "merkin" mentioned Murray Taulagi....he obviously has no idea how slow he is.
I could turn around and say be patient but we have this mentality we need to win a premiership, I would much prefer us to build from the ground up and attempt the Penrith formula, they are demograpically less attractive than us but the example they offer for players is not comparable at this point of time.
Ryles can get us there and the plan is in place, just not unfolding at this moment.
The red necks we have on here carrying on like pork chops everytime something like this happens is more predictable than anything our R&R can do.
One final point when criticising the R&R is they need to have their own business statement that sets a plan all on its own. They need a salesman to sell our brand.....is there an agent out there that we could recruit as an example? Richardson was mentioned, don't let him run the club but he can be an executive salesman. The other bods seem to have no ammunition to sell the place. The business plan could involve a select group of businesses that we could work with, things like TPA's and other incentives for family members.
Essentially they would be off the books and work with the club as an advisory panel through the CEO.
There is no easy answers and tell me "one red neck" out of our site group of experts you would employ as a salesman to sell the club. To many of these people will tell what we need to do but don't know the reasons and how to fix them. They think it is like going to a shop window and buying off the shelf....always wish lists of who they would like to have but no idea what brings them home to our acreage or even want to come.
So where the fcuk is all the money going? Fcuk this crap irritates me.
