From what I understand he isn't but as I say our neighbours Riff role out Casey Maclean whose been our equivalent in the outside backs stakes the last 5-10 years Will Penisini ?
Nah our pathways need a lot of work and we need to see improved transference of talent.
Talent that actually kicks on,your Russell's Penisini's Nanva's of the world won't cut the mustard.
Pathways aren't a tap you turn on and off overnight. Players pushing for FG right now are products of the system from 3–5 years ago. The fact that Harold Matts has genuine backline talent coming through shows that it’s on the way to being fixed from the bottom up. Will it all work out? No guarentee but it is more of a chance than before.
Fixing the pack first and having to recruit key spine players like Luai in the short term is literally standard modern roster management while the junior spine catches up. Having 3 pathways players debut this year and perhaps another 3 next year is great for the club. Tuivaiti included the year before is great for pathways. Backs need work, but we have some kids with promise in Sorovi, Bloomfield, Martin and Seuseu. They are 1-2 years off at least before FG but it is a step in the right direction.
It would be worse having kids in SG Ball and Flegg and having none move up to Cup to develop further. We had Talagi, Petrus, Popo, Fletcher and Koina all move from Ball to Cup this year. That is great moving forward. Does it mean everything is ok? No of course not but it is better than what i was before.
Your 5% claim is over the top Chief. Your overall argument is fair, i agree the pathways still has ways to go. But it is better than what it was before. Though the backs and halves need some work, there are a lot of forwards where the pathways is working in that area.
100% agree. Our pathways talent wise is the best i have seen it in years and there is a deliberate push now to move the best kids through the grades and develop into NRL players rather than leaving them and pushing for lower grade titles.
Yep, winning lower grade titles is great but the priority is to get them to NRL. Putting them into Cup at 19-20 does wonders for development of players.
I am still not sure if the way we are developing and transference of skills across the grades is good.
But yes talent wise there is plenty
Mon and Rodgers are out nonetheless LB. Both should be cleaning out their desks as we speak.
