I know that a certain former player who is now a journo isn't exactly the most like person on here but he did make a couple of interesting points when discussing any penalty to be handed down to Parramatta.
1. The decision for the penalty is 100% on Todd Greenberg, the people who are doing the investigation will give Greenberg a report in which they will make recommendations of what the penalty should be, Greenberg will then read the report and come up with a decision based on the contents of the report he may decide to go with the recommendations for the report however, he has the power to increase or decrease any recommendations as he sees fit.
2. One big factor in the penalty will be the NRL asking itself "With everything we know will we be comfortable with Parramatta winning the grand final this year" if they are then the penalty will reflect that but if not then they will ensure there is no chance of that happening.
3. Gorden Tallis said he would much rather play against a team cheating the cap then against a team taking banned substances, he actually made the point of how soft the penalty against the Sharks was in comparison to some of the rumoured penalties the Eels will be given
Replies
Interesting, if this is true then the penalty will be either 4-6 points or totally wiped out. Assuming we are guilty.
Kent is incredibly keen to see us get completely rubbed out this year . . . . . and big Gordie has consistently gone into bat for us over the last few weeks.
True in terms of penalty
but that doesn't mean he isn't correct on the process, which is why I made a point not to mention what he thought the answer to the question in point 2 should be
2. Ffs none of the players concerned with as reported misdemeanors will be playing in the grand final so can't see the problem with NRL being uncomfortable. In ALL other point deductions the shonky paymnets were to recruit and retain their CURRENT squads.
3. Good on Talis who probably has a semblance of conscience and knows that all of this stuff goes down and was probably on the end of some doozies himself.
It's bloody ridiculous with what's being touted as possible penalties given!
Watmough has been named in the SportsCube saga and he is still currently a member of the squad and if he was recruited by shonky means then that means at the time he was signed the dodgy deals were still being done.
We don't know what other evidence the NRL has it could well point to CURRENT players
The NRL never found these issues past or otherwise before so who is to say things weren't being hidden when the NRL cleared the Jennings signing
Sorry, but while they may well be proven to be under the cap this year and none of the players are on dodgy deals but I'm not so 100% convinced that there is ZERO wrong with the current salary cap, it may well be and I hope it is however to say that there is no way these issues are not still going on is silly.
How is that 50k TPA gonna be treated by insurance. It's not. The TPA if he retires can no longer exist would that be right? Wati loses the 50k as we can't guarentee.
Wouldn't be totally surprised if the NRL are awaiting for the insurance outcome. You?
Well nothing would surprise when scouring the murky world of any NRL clubs books.
No we don't know what's been uncovered about CURRENT players and that's precisely why it's stupid to go off half cocked about sacking the board etc until all is known.
Dave again none of us know as yet. But considering we have hired Shubert to help out I'd say that goes along way towards current cap being compliant. We hope?
At worst who gives a brass if we are or aren't so long as we are deemed to be sheesh...join the Congo line of clubs doing likewise. But none of them have the apperently straight down the line Shubert working for them and surely even with doubters like yourself that must go a long way towards helping you sleep better at night. It does me anyway.
Yep trust that guy
I do get your point that it might help the club that they hired the NRLs guy but he hardly has a good history in actually fondimg cap rorts
