Six Again - Love it or Hate it.

The new 6 again rule to be introduced, Do you Love it or Hate it.

I'm for it, I think it will open up the footy again for the attacking players, the wrestle will decrease because of the new rule, darts from dummy half will happen more frequently, the defensive lines will be breached more often and there will be less stoppages while everyone re sets their line after a penalty is blown. I also love the idea that the referee has discretion to also award a penalty to cater for those 1 point 1 minute left on the clock scenarios, and in the end their will be less on the games penalty count that the media so love to talk up.

I can see players like Moses and Dylan brown loving it.

So what do players think Love it or Hate it. An early call hey.

  • I like the idea if it is able to be managed the way it is intended but no doubt coaches will find a way to exploit it.

  • I can see players laying all over the ruck whilst defending their try lines.

If refs no longer penalise for laying in the ruck can they still sin-bin players for intentionally doing it? It's no longer a penalty offence.
So when defending your try line just keep slowing down the play the ball until the opposition make a mistake.

    • Im not sure but i think the referee has discretion as well. He can call 6 again which is preferable but the option of a penalty is still available. What they base that decision on ie 6 again or penalty i dont know. I can only assume the state of the game, the location on the field and the number of infringements perhaps ?

A little bit like the old differential penalty in the old scrum days, instead of able to kick for 2points they had to tap or kick for sideline, in the new case i guess they just play the ball as quick as they can and try to get the opposition offside / broken defensive line etc.

    • Muttman, there is provision for the referee to not only penalise for repeated offences in the ruck, but there is also a sin bin requirement to follow repeated infringements. The new 6 again rule has all the bases covered to deliver dramatic action to follow immediately for continued infringment without the previous need for a warning to be given. These penalties now cover all "smart ass" coaches and players premeditated course of action and without any need to explain the decision either. The new rule and the accompanying penalties takes the coaches and playing coaches (Cam Smith and DCE to name a few) schemes onfield out of play. Hallelujah!

This is the best "new rule" and associated penalties to prevent abuse of rules that I have ever seen. It also puts all the pressure on the referee to ACT decisively with power he is now given with sufficient deterrant  for refs not to go weak on implimentation of the harsher penalties. If the refs don't comply with the intent? there are now 14 other referees running along the sideline with a flag who would jump at the chance to swap it for a whistle! Thank God for leadership with the courage of his convictions. Take a bow Peter V'landys.

  • What happens if the infringement is on tackle zero after a drop ball from the opposition? Does the ref yell 6 again? hahaha

    • 7 again anyone :)

      • The poor refs are so gonna stuff this up

  • I heard Ray Hadley say the attacking team have the option kicking for goal

  • Did they trial this once before? I think the refs are going to have enough pressure on them already without this rule.

  • Second phase play, off the cuff play and scoots will be the norm.  Momentum will be almost impossible to stop when teams are fatigued and smark hookers like COOK, SMITH are darting out and creating issues.    I just hope we are fit enough to handle the load.
