Sivo to Cowboys?

The Parramatta Eels are quietly looking to move winger Maika Sivo.

Currently on a deal worth around $550,000-a-season, Sivo has been a shadow of the player who took the NRL by storm when he debuted back in 2019.

We’ve heard the Cowboys are interested in trying to strike a deal to bring big Maika to Townsville but have virtually no wiggle room to move in the salary cap.

Sivo was axed to NSW Cup earlier this season before being sin binned against Manly for a brain snap.

The Eels flyer has still managed to score six tries in four games this season but with Zac Lomax arriving next year Parramatta are looking to buy themselves more room in the salary cap.

    • My son just got his learners, he's got 100 hours driving to do

  • His carries out of the backfield are underwhelming for a man of his physique. You wonder if he is gun shy after he blew his knee out on that last major injury he had. He did show some glimpses last year, but just seems to have gone into his shell. He then has those brain explosions where he jams in off his wing, takes someones head off and gets a suspension. The last brain explosion vs Manly might have been the last straw as Gutho was visibly pissed off in the presser.

Close to the line he is a crowd pleaser. But he offers little else. The limited metres of our back 5 are burning out our forwards so with the signing of Lomax, this is at least a recognition of the problem. Suprised anyone is actually interested in him other than as a depth signing.

    • I reckon his body is regressing massively. Ever since his ACL in 2021. People forget he is 31 this year, some people would think he is young since he only debuted in 2019.

  • NQ have hardley any wiggle room in cap. Ok well player swap for a player of similar value. They wont let go of a back as they need them, as per the interest in Sivo. Why not take a forward? Griffin Neame would be good to bring in as a future replacement to RCG or Paulo. But other than that, i see no other realisitc options.

      • Yeah the cowboys are going to let go of cotter for sivo, fuck people say stupid shit On this site

  • There is a god, we should be looking at shipping off a couple of more

  • The succession plan under Arthur and o'neill- what succession plan ?

You have a pack all hitting 30 - 31 at once all signed to longer deals with no succession planning process.

We have gutho who's nearing his last few seasons and sivo who's on an extraordinary long expensive deal - he'll be hitting 31 this season....

Then our best two local juniors are left unsigned until the horse had bolted.

The head development honcho,  georgalis,  who has been given the task to fix development is also head coach of the NWRL. .  Shows how much the club are concerned development.

    Who has the big broom?

    • Don't get me wrong, I want MON gone yesterday, and BA not far behind him.

But to be fair we have had some bad luck with a few of the juniors on the cusp going down with injuries right before the season.

Richard Penisini and Arthur Miller Stephen both looked like promising prospects from a nursery perspective. Matt Arthur is looking the goods. Blaize is showing promise.

    • I have Chief, where would you like it?

    • They may want him to replace Feltd who is  a couple of years older and a player with similar strengths. Ironically Feldt reportedly nearly retired when Sivo scored 4 tries on him a few seasons back

"It's the option. Many journo's saying he's free from November 1, when I thought it was he had til Round 10 to take the option.
I would not be too concerned at this stage."

"He is a under performing player for his pay grade. He is better than average but not great.
He can't play 80 at the elite effort required and it is really holding parra back.
DB is under enormous scrutiny this year. Great in defence .Too much hype…"
