So far it looks like we got spooked when we missed out on his mate and thought we had to sign someone quick to save face.
We got scammed big time. The guy is a myth at this stage. Shows very little in attack and zero in defence. Anyone calling for full off season or give the $600K kid a chance etc is just hoping he comes good. He is like a million other juniors throughout the years ...unable to make the step up.
If I am wrong, I'll happily admit it but this far I see nothing to get excited about.
Right ok, and what were we expecting last night? People said last week he need to be more simple and give Moses the ball. He does that an people still bitch and moan. I get it, he is seen as the black sheep as many here love Ryley Smith and feel TDS is not needed, but the kid is 20 for christ sakes. If he was 22 or 23 then ok make the claim he is not good enough but seriously i just feel he is being targeted more than any other player as many love and adore Smith. Many said at the start of the year to drop Iongi or play him on the Wing, Kautoga is not a FG quality player etc.
What 20 year old comes in mid year with 22 NRL games not knowing the spine at all and plays well straight away? He was ok last night, didn't do anything wrong. Shows very little in attack, well guess what Ryley Smith has played more minute this year and has 0 tries, 0 try assists and 0 line break assists. Not saying Smith is not good or playing well, he is and i like him a lot but it is true. Da Silva has 3 tries this season with way less minutes.
Not saying either will be better than the other as i do not know but TDS targeting at this stage is ridiculous.
Plus the comment of people saying give him an off-season is people hoping he comes good, well yeah that's exactly what it is isn't it? More give him a full pre-season to pass judgement. If he gets to this time next year and not showing more than ok give him all the hate. But Ryley Smith staying on was not winning us that game last night let's be fair. Smith had no help from Moses, Papali'i and Iongi. TDS played simple and gave the ball to the playmakers and took a few good runs from offloads, he was simple.
Well we will certainly find out next season I guess.
