He should take the tax free dollars. His back is farked and will only get worse.
How do you know that?
He said it himself. Liam martin hammered him in origin caused back issues. Nerve problems
He had surgury and fully recoverd from that back injury.
The year he's just had off rehabing and building strength will have been reallly good for him.
I thnk (hope) he's gonna have a big year in 2027.
I wouldn't re-sign him, i think he has played his best footy.
This next season will be critical for hopgood in terms of his playing future, he needs a good season and hopefully for him and the eels he can produce at a high level again.
Why any player would want to live in PNG is mind boggling! I know the money but seriously some of these players and staff will be lucky to last 6 months
They are getting the 1-2 year money then getting out of there. Getting 1-2 year salary is equivalent to 3-4 years I. Australia.
He was a relatively late bloomer with nrl, only really earning good money this contract. He also has been injury prone which may limit his longevity (he is 28). If I was him I'd definitely be taking the tax free dollar to try to set myself up after footy
While im a big fan of his, probably the best outcome for everyone! Free's up a spot for a youngen to step up, we are looking pretty good up front.
Just need that aussie rep back line member (or two) and maybe the future is looking brighter.
Jackson Koina, if he develops like we think, will be the replacement.
