So the title in the DT. Foxsports.com has the following NRL 2016: Parramatta Eels say third-party deal negotiations with local council were above board.
PARRAMATTA chief executive John Boulous says he didn’t break the NRL’s salary cap laws when he attempted to set up a third-party deal between three players and the local council.
Reports surfaced on Wednesday that Boulous, who was then the club’s chief operating officer, and football boss Daniel Anderson had been in contact with Parramatta council regarding possible use of Tim Mannah, Will Hopoate and Nathan Peats becoming ambassadors for $75,000 in 2014.
Text messages also show that the council made contact with the three players’ agents, while then Eels CEO Scott Seward met with councillor Pierre Esber and his CEO Greg Dyer in March 2015 before the idea was shelved, according to News Corp.
There are also clear links between the council and the Eels. Current Lord Mayor Paul Gerrard has been on the club’s board since May last year, and councillor John Chedid is the CEO of the Eels’ Premiership Club, which is a business networking group.
However Boulous said on Wednesday morning that he had only been a part of introductions for the planned project, which is within the NRL rules.
“Again, there were discussions with the NRL about all relevant issues relating to the potential program with council,” he said in a statement.
It would seem that the DT is determined to maintain & expand the rage in their secret subscriber only editions, wonder as time is going on if the case against the eels is actually sinking, with the Journo's & DT determined to try & keep it afloat.

The problem is with these articles in the DT, & similar with other daily's they hide these stories in their subscriber only areas, with the DT that happens unless there is something close to fact, rather than allegations. SMH tends to allow net readers to view a set monthly amount of readings unless you subscribe for home delivery or full digital access. Means the outsider gets limited reading
The DT in the above heading is blocked to non subscribers. So who knows whats actually in it, unless someone can C&P the article.
Great point Brissy. I think its high time the Eels got on the front foot and started legal action of their own against DT and others regarding defamation on the basis of unfactual information. We have the cash, seemingly we now have specific examples in black and white of information that could be deemed defamatory in a court of law and a very strong case for saying the club has lost reputation and loss of income as a result of these articles.
Why not put the heat back on them?? At the very least they may think twice before writing such garbage
The following is a statement from John Boulous, CEO of the Parramatta Eels, regarding reports in today's Daily Telegraph:
Today's story in the Daily Telegraph is wrong and omits important information.
The facts of this matter are:
A player ambassador program was certainly discussed as part of the Parramatta Eels' strategic partnership with Parramatta City Council.
The Eels were involved in making introductions between the players and Council, as is fully allowable under the NRL's rules.
Ultimately, after discussions with the NRL and player representatives, Council decided not to pursue the ambassador program.
Again, there were discussions with the NRL about all relevant issues relating to the potential program with Council.
Any specific discussions relating to third party arrangements must be done at arm's length from the club, through the nominated player's management and with the NRL's approval.
The above information was provided in full to the journalist in question who authored the story, after he contacted the club for comment at 6pm last night.

I just love that a councillor is now apparently a salary cap expert. Case closed take all our points, this woman has got us busted!!
It's not like we haven't made any recent signings or players and their manager TPAS since 14 or thereabouts.
With what's been put out there, not seeming like Systemic Rorting picture at all really, or I'm sure the salary cap investigator Nickoff would have uncovered it ha?
DT is desperate I think. Isn't it funny this stuff with Cronulla and peptides didn't portray them in as bad a way; or did I miss something? And lets not mention Melb and Canterbury. Or Broncos with A Gee
This is what gets to me. The only involvement indicated by the texts is that Parra Council got details of player / managers from DA and that Boulos asked if the council had contacted said managers.
Yet he states they were "actively involved in discussions". Talk about drawing a long bow.
The only people with access to text messages outside of the employees themselves is the NRL. They were given phones and laptops as part of this investigation.
THE NRL IS LEAKING!!!!
