Scott warns eels not to rely on defence.

If there's anyone who knows his defensive limits, it's Beau Scott. The Parramatta hardman is renowned for his grit and tenacity, exemplified when he collapsed with exhaustion after tackling himself to a standstill in State of Origin I last year.So when Scott warns the Eels of the consequences of relying too much on their defence, they should listen."It's going to take its toll on you," Scott said on Tuesday."We need to get our attack together now."We've had enough time together as a playing group to form a few combinations, and that's what we'll be trying to get together over the next couple of weeks."The resurgent Eels have now strung three consecutive wins after shutting out Wests Tigers on Sunday, and are one of five teams on top of the table with six points. However a poor points differential - their 52 total points is 14th in the NRL - leaves them in fifth."We're far from our best," Scott said."We're winning games on the back of our defence. That's what we've been doing the last couple of weeks. But to do it in a bit better fashion and put a few more points on teams would be nice as well."The recovery of skipper Kieran Foran's hamstring should help. The big-name recruit has struggled to stay on the training paddock over his first six months at Parramatta due to a troublesome hamstring injury. But winger Clinton Gutherson said the Kiwi international recently left the rehab group and rejoined the rest of his teammates at training, which should finally result in an improved attack."(Corey Norman has) been out there with a few different halves throughout the pre-season. Now Foz's hammy's alright and we're on the paddock there and playing - it's just going to take a bit of time to gel," he said. The Eels host struggling Penrith at home on Sunday.

  • I heard BA say what i thought was a bit worrying thing in the presser, ''we are going to keep focusing on our defence until we get it right,  then we will work on our attack and our attack should fall into place'' or something along those lines.

News for BA, have you ever heard of multi tasking mate ?

You might want to think about doing both at the same time.

    • Ye agree shake. 4 rounds in and we are the best defensive team in the league. If that's not getting it right then I don't know what is. We have the attacking weapons in the side. Time to start using them.
    • Good call snake.Forwards are going pretty good,Foz is making a big difference.Hits line at pace, taking players with him.Unlike norman, who's tossing around doing shit kicks & thinking he's good. There is such a big difference between these two it's not funny.

    • Snake, I think everyone, BA included, identifies the fact that our attack seems a little one dimensional at the moment. Perhaps because we're so used to being such an ad-lib attacking outfit and Foz is leading a team of structure rather than laissez-faire.

To be honest, the attack can come in time. Defense is an attitude - and we seem to have the attitude right at the moment.

There's a few Chicken Little's running around the forum at the moment - is Corey Norman any good? Should Foran shift to 6?

To be honest, that try that Foz put on for Junior - that would have impressed the shit out of the coaches because that's what they're attempting to do at training! Semi's tries off Norman and Gower last week were impressive, but you can't train for those - they just happen sometimes.

Personally, I'm far happier with the resolve of the team right now, irrespective of whether Monday's game was less entertaining than a previous model of the Parramatta Eels might have served up!

It's nice to bank 2 points of a weekend - and for the first time since Jesus played fullback for the Israelites, that's something we've now done three weeks in a row!

      I'll take that!

    • Sounds a lot like something the great Jack Gibson said when we won 3 premierships in a row.

Hope it works out just as well.

  • What it doesn't mention is that our for and against is ranked 7th. Who cares how many points you score if you lose all your games?
    • We are going to play some high quality attacking sides this year and there will be times when our defence will be broken down. If we find ourselves 12 or 14 points behind then the match is done and dusted if we can't put points on the board. Also the odd 40 point win will do wonders for our for and against.
    • Out for and against is positive which is good. Most of the teams have a negative differential. If we scored four more points in the first game we would now be in 4th position.
  • I dont care if they win by one field goal to nil. As long as they win.
