Ryles Winning with a $6 Million Roster

Jason Ryles is doing a phenomenal job at the helm of the Eels — and when you break it down, he’s doing it with a roster that’s worth just $6 million out of an $11.5 million salary cap.

That’s nearly half the value of many of our opponents.

Here’s a rough breakdown of the current squad he's working with

  • Iongi – $450k

  • Addo-Carr – $450k

  • Penasini – $550k

  • Russell – $280k

  • Lomax – $600k

  • Papalii – $180k

  • (Footy Dean) – $200k

  • Junior Paulo – $850k

  • Ryley  – $170k

  •  Williams – $460k

  • Kautoga – $200k

  • Tuilagi – $375k

  • Hopgood – $400k

  • Walker – $400k

  • Doorey – $300k

  • Lussick – $300k

  • Guymer – $300k

That’s approximately $6 million – and that might even be generous in a few cases.

Yet despite being undermanned on paper, Ryles' Eels have not only held their own, they've beaten the Dragons, Titans, Tigers, Manly, and Newcastle. They’ve also gone down narrowly to quality sides like the Sharks, Dolphins, Bulldogs, and Panthers — all in the last 10 rounds as the team adapts to Ryles' systems.

It’s clear: the coaching staff Ryles has assembled is doing a good job. With a full-strength roster and the cap space to build the squad he truly wants, look out. Parramatta is in seriously good hands.

Also, if we can get jag a win against the Dragons this Saturday then another 2 points with the bye up next,   we'll have a host of players coming back from injury and suspension including

Moses, Sam Tuivaiti,  Moretti, Bailey Simonsson, Ritchie penasini, Ryley Smith most of them due back after the bye.

A run for the 8 is not out of the question

      • Other than a couple of games , he's been very underwhelming when he has played.

        • But he's been either out injured, or playing injured. There's no doubt he was playing with that calf injury between SOO 1 and SOO 2.

    • Your wrong, very wrong. Bar injury Moses would be playing SOO. RCG just got dominated by the Eels pack and is struggling in a team coming last.

Last season we were being towled by 20, 30 even 40 points. Not happen this season against the top sides. The Eels are playing a better style of footy, attack and defence. You will understand one day how it all works, meantime just keep bitching and winghing.

    • This, coming from a guy who wanted to sign Daine Laurie and "Dud" Sullivan (have a look at his missed tackle on Ethan Strange) 😂😂😂

There are far more positives than negatives, and there has been some good progress. Don't forget all the injuries and suspensions to key players, the contract saga with Dylan Brown, the new players coming in, and the mix of youth and experience all trying to adapt playing under the vastly different structures of a new coach.

You mention his predecessor, well he spent 2-3 seasons too many at the eels, and I for one am far more positive about the direction this club is heading,  for the first time in a long time!!

      • lol,  oh the backdoor boys come out who hide in the shadows too scared to share their opinions until they gather up the courage .

ummm did you see the try that was strolled in against our FB and half our squad the other night ? Sooo we sack them ?  😂😂.

How many weeks have you been taking notes for before you were able to roll out that list of kurfuffle ?

And if you're going to quote me ( or attempt to poorly ) maybe quote me in full context . Youre like a Temu Ploppa. I said we should sign Laurie when our troops were shot and there was an opportunity pre June 30 what last year ? Or was it the season before ?   The same years he managed to hold his spot in the premiers team . He's a damn sight better utility backup than what we had until Walkers come along.

Sulivan , 23 played 50 games and Kicks at 70% , yeah what a shit option for discussion should we not find a 5/8 🤓.

  • Winning what?

    • Bem i have great respect for your opinions and views.  I'm just saying that Ryles has us being competitive with a shoe string budget.

      Any you're saying winning what?

Weren't you the person in the cupboard saying the Titans would obliterate us by 36?

No offence but please give Ryles some credit

      • I did think the Titans would smash us without our starting halves as that is what the norm is.

We are playing a bit better than last year but we are still anchored firmly in the bottom 4.

I will give Ryles some credit but most new coaches go through a honeymoon period but there is winning and there is winning.

We are winning the occasional game here and there but we are far far far from being consistent.

Yes we are suffering injuries but other teams seem to manage their injuries far better than us and keep finding a way to win.

At one stage, Penrith were at the very bottom of the table but are now in the top 8 while we are equal 2nd last.

        For me, that's not winning.

        • Hopefully with time and better learning off Ryley's coaching methods, improvements will come.  We still need shoring up in the forwards particularly the front row

          • We certainly do.

I'm not blaming our position solely on Ryles.

We have a very average roster and that is on Sarintinos and MON.
