NSW VB Blues coach Laurie Daley has today announced a 37-man squad to participate in the 2014 Under 20’s Origin Pathway Camp at Narrabeen next weekend.

The camp, which will be run over two days, will include presentations on Origin history and culture, individual position sessions with Blues coaching staff and an on field session lead by Daley.

“These camps are something that Ricky Stuart brought into the Origin system when he was in charge and I continue them because I believe they have some real merit to them,” NSW VB Blues Coach Laurie Daley said.

“Aaron Woods and Boyd Cordner made their State of Origin debuts this year and they were members of these squads in previous years.

“I am very excited about this year’s group…. a player like Dylan Walker, who has progressed through Holden Cup, VB NSW Cup and made his NRL debut in a star-studded South Sydney side in just one year, is someone Blues fans should be keeping an eye on.”

Several players from the group have already had NRL experience in Luke Brooks, Kelepi Tanginoa, Jake Trbojevic, Clinton Gutherson and Dylan Walker with a number of other participants expected to debut in season 2014.

Players will arrive at the NSWRL Centre of Excellence, Narrabeen, at 4pm on Friday, November 29 and break camp at 5.30pm on Saturday, November 30.

  • I was thinking the same 2 from our nursery is very light considering the size. I blame Sticky he got in Daley's ear knowing we all hate him now, and its our fault he quit.

  • Well , there are 3 other Cabramatta juniors in the squad, we still get raided and bigger offers from the usual suspects are made.

Hopefully, Nolan and Field are fixing this currently, they seem to have a hand of the juniors and BA has done more work in 2 weeks than that awful piece of humanity did in a year

  • We would also have a large number of Polynesian kids so wondering if they have committed to the Kiwis hence are not eligible for this squad.

  • Ryan matterson?? How's he go? dont think ive seen him play? what position is he??
    • He's a 5/8, but pretty big, 190cm and 95kg's is what he's listed on our website.

    • Five-eighth, back-row and lock.
Decent player, but hasn't had a chance to really impress that much.

      Didn't play a game until Rd 18.

      Rd 18: 15m from 2 runs & 21 tackles.

      Rd 19: 63m from 6 runs, 2 tackle breaks, 28 tackles & 1 offload.

      Rd 20: 75m from 6 runs, 2 tackle breaks, 27 tackles, 1 offload, 1 line-break assist, 1 error & 1 penalty conceded.

      Rd 21 (five-eighth): 47m from 4 runs, 1 try, 8 tackle breaks, 24 tackles, 1 line-break, 1 error & 1 penalty conceded.

      Rd 22: DNP

      Rd 23: DNP

      Rd 24: DNP

      Rd 25: 71m from 7 runs, 1 try assist, 1 tackle break, 12 tackles, 1 offload & 1 line-break assist.

      Rd 26 (back-row): 58m from 10 runs, 1 tackle break, 22 tackles & 2 offloads.

Actually quite mobile for a player of his decent size, solid offload, decent ball skills.
Not given a lot of opportunity, but did play decently in some games this year.

"The problem is, Russell is just as bad defensively as Sivo and is worse under the high ball. The biggest difference though is Sivo can actually score tries."

"Agree I personally wouldn't be getting rid of him due to his strike rate. The powers that be want to get rid of him. Plenty of players that can metres out of the backfield. "
