Roosters match a blessing

Hi All,

It's been a while since I've been on, but am compelled by all the chest beating Chook people and Eels doomsayers delighting in this weekend's loss to the Roosters. Well, it's actually a blessing, and here are the positives.

1. The Eels will be seen as no hopers by many critics, whilst the Roosters will be super cocky as one of the new premiership favourites. This will relieve pressure on us, because few, except eels fans and perhaps weary critics, now expect a repeat of last year. We'll be the underdogs.

2. Call me blind eels fanatic, but the bounce of the ball went the Roosters way almost every time, from grubbers that rebounded their ways to tries, to long kicks that bounced back the right way, to Carney kicking everything from the sideline how many times ? To benefit of the doubt tries going their way and against us. Meanwhile the Eels blew many chances & played the whole game under pressure. Rooster passes stuck, ours didn't. That's footy.

In a nutshell, Roosters probably played near their best and couldn't do all that much better. The eels can do much much better.

3. If this match doesn't motivate us to do better, nothing will and we don't have the attitude to deserve the title. We showed last year we have the potential. We have a better roster this year. We just need the confidence and the attitude back to play for each other.

As an aside, did anyone else feel completely irritated at the Rooster ruck display ? Grubby slow down tactics if I ever saw them. How they didn't get half their team sinned binned is astonising. Anyway that's how I felt. Parra must rank as one of the cleanest teams in the competition. Why we don't get dirtier is both a credit to our culture and an annoyance.

Don't lose hope fellow eels supporters. Let the Parra bashers have their day in the sun. Ours will arrive.

  • Thats exactly right PM. All ive been hearing about is how the Hayne train has been derailed and the Hayne Plane has crashed and blah blah insert other stupid lame stuff people come up with. I think this loss came at a good time because there was just soooo much pressure on us and the media was on our back 24/7. Weve just transferred the pressure to the roosters and now our boys can focus more on the upcoming games as opposed to what the papers are going to say about them that day.
  • Thanks PM, pleasure to read your blog. So sick of hearing how Hayne blew it, Luke Burt did nothing to contribute blah blah blah. I was at the game, and I completely agree with all you said. Penalties did not go our way, we blew a few chances our passes did not stick and your right - thats footy. It's a game, and you can't win all the time.
The old chooks do play a bit dirty though, the slow down tactics were really bad.
  • And how bout the 'refs call' for Reddys try? I couldn't see the replay screen that clearly from where I was sitting, but I was pretty close to Reddy, and it looked like he dead set put the ball on the ground..

I think it was a turning point in the game, Eels were playing like they still had a chance but after that no try the team looked deflated..

Gosh the refs really know how to spoil a good game..
  • Thanks for the comments guys.

Yeah Sutto I was a bit surprised Gus Gould didn't really put the boot into us - like he has on occasions - he was a bit too realistic.

It would have be a great motivator.
  • Please don't go so long between posts again PM! :-)
    • P.S. PM - if I stalk correctly, I have been enjoying your posts for far longer than I care to admit!

Were you a regular on the old, old, old official forums? :-)
  • PM, that analysis is terrific! Saturday's game is hopefully the last low point of this season, and I hope the boys adopt the positive (and realistic) approach you have! :)

Judging from Tim and Jarryd's tweets about the good turn out for the fan day (did anyone know about it? I probably do enough Eels stalking but I'm surprised they didn't announce it at the game) and Tim's mention of Shack joining their training sessions, I think they're building themselves up again. Let's hope it's a final(s) boarding call :)
    • Mainey i didnt know about it either! I was soo bummed. I saw their tweets at 5 pm, i had left my stalking too late and so i missed out on going :( I really wish i had.
  • We need more like you.
  • Sorry to be the cold shower PM

Point 2 - You are a blind eels fanatic.
You invited everyone to call you that but none did.

Any more like you haning around?
