Exciting news for the Sydney Roosters as they strategically plan for the future by securing Lachlan Metcalfe for the next two seasons. While Lachlan may not be a household name for many fans yet, the halfback is certainly one to watch, especially if he maintains his current impressive form. There's speculation that he could potentially become Sam Walker's future partner on the field.
Prior to joining the Roosters, Metcalfe showcased his talents with the Parramatta Eels, where he played in their Under-16s development team last season. This move reflects the Roosters' commitment to nurturing and investing in promising talents for the seasons to come.

So Parramatta has done all the work to develop this player and get nothing for it. Parramatta should be significantly compensated for this and a transfer fee should be paid. This is what happens in the EPL. Minimum should be $150k for each year they are signed for.
So a kid that not many if any have heard of leaves and we need to be compensated? He's still in very early stages of development.
If we do get compensation what do we do with it? Using it on cap is unfair as it is slim this kid plays NRL compared to the amount juniors each team has and who makes it.
In a case like Sanders compensation method could work as he will play NRL but he left for an opportunity so how should we be compensated when we have two halves on good money?
That's not what happens in the EPL. Teams only get a transfer fee if they sell him before his contract expires. If an EPL players contract expires he can leave on a free transfer, meaning his old team gets nothing. Metcalfe is leaving at the end of his current deal, we are entitled to nothing.
What you are saying is not correct. The clause is called training compensation and is payable until the player is 23. It is to compensate the club that developed the player. It is payable even on the players next contract. E.g. They start at Bolton move to Newcastle and a payment is due. They then sign a contact with Manchester and if the player is under 23 another payment is due. This is not dependant on the contract.
If he's that good, why wouldn't parra keep him? He's still young and will be in a position to make 1st grade around the time Moses retires.
To be honest it's the first I've heard of him.
Funny how the Roosters can attract junior players with a promise , despite them having to travel for close to 90 minutes each way to train, there should be compensation of some sort when young talent is poached, guess the Roosters do it better than most.
Why should there be ?
We don't own the player, he's a free agent.
God I miss the 80s
I was told about him but i assume junior development either did not see much or he was happy to go. Dev team is a stepping stone for some to Matts etc.
