Reverse Hayne

Could an NFL player come to NRLI am thinking of a prop used as an impact playerSome of the NFL players are huge and amazing athletesThe stars would never come here for a huge pay cutBut maybe someone who is not big enough to make the cut in NFL eg 130kg, would still be huge for an NRL player. I know there is a stamina and technique issuesBut with Hayne moving up over there it could be an opportunity to get the interest of someone to come the other way

  • I think I remember the old man saying parra had one in the early sixties & something about Manfred Man I think he played for the blue bags. Someone out there will set my memory straight though I am sure
    • Al E Kirkland was the Parra player. From memory he toured with an American all stars team and stayed. Manfred Moore played for Newtown with little success.
    • Thanks Sixties yes that sounds like the old stories I used to hear, I was close but happy to have the gaps in the memory restored cheers
    • Rise of an Empire: That`s one hell of a name by the way! Yes, it was Al Kirkland from the American All Stars. He played centre--inside or outside centre I can't recall which--for Parramatta in 1957--it was reported in a newspaper earlier this week. He won some Parramatta`s best player awards. I saw him play a couple of times and he deserved his place in 1st grade at that time. He was quiet big for a centre and held his own in speed. He had thinning blond hair. I was told a story about AL. He asked his 1st grade team mates for help to get a job--they played football and worked also in those days. His team mates got an appointment for him for an interview. When he turned up for the interview he found that it was a Sanitary Depot! He was expected to collect the sanitary cans from domestic premises!! He did not take up the job!i

    • Cheers Robert that's some great info I remember the old man saying he was a fair size unit
  • Manfred Mann was an English band who had a string of hits in the 60s and early 70s. Interestingly enough one of their biggest hits, "Blinded by the Light" was written by a very young Bruce Springsteen.
    • You have a good memory for a 60sboy
      • The 60s refers to when I was born, but I will admit to a memory issue lately.
    • Blinded by the Light was a last minute song along with Spirit in the Night that Springsteen threw onto Greetings From Asbury Park when his producers said the album didn't contain a single. Both songs became regulars during his concerts in the late 70s.
  • Even the nobodies would have to take a serious pay cut to move from NFL to NRL. And their cost of living would go up too in Australia. So get paid less, spend more, for a sport you haven't played, and have the chance to play in front of way, way, way less people.
    Not a very enticing prospect.

"I think Braith respects Ryles as a coach and what he's doing at Parra and obviously believes Lomax did the wrong thing, listened to poor advice and brought this all upon himself and did the wrong thing to Parra"

"Agree. He was giving to Reed who clearly hates the Eels and Reed has no idea what he's talking about. "
