In your opinion what would be a respectable result against Melbourne ?
In Parramatta’s last two matches last season, both without Moses, the Eels were beaten
48 - 16. ( Brown @ 7) Suncorp
32 - 14 ( Asi @ 7 ) Bankwest
In both games Melbourne weren't at full strength with Munster not starting. Melbourne weren't at home on both occasions.
This match sees Melbourne at home and pretty much at full strength.
In my opinion a 10 to 18 point loss would be respectable considering the club’s injury toll. The Eels spine also also will lack connectivity, with a new fullback and Half-back - Iongi and Volkman.
A score of 14 - 28 or similar would be completely understandable and very respectable under the circumstances, and hopefully our defence holds up.
*Really excited about development debutants Ryley Smith and Sam Tuivaiti.
* issaia Iongi's flare
* Williams solidifying the defence
Anything over a 24 point loss and Ryles wouldn't be too happy id say.

As long as we don't display the same garbage we did under BA the final score is less important.
I will be happy if we don't have to blow our rape whistle during the game...or have a truth session afterwards
Well I'm the only fan to say this but a loss isn't acceptable in any guise or form.
Ill say this the only thing I don't want to see from us is a team that rolls over and makes the game easy for Melbourne.If we see what we did in pre season the team coughing up cheap possession and field position with poor errors then I'll say we are in trouble.If I see us playing soft in the middle looking to go around Melbourne then I'll say we are in trouble.If our fowards aren't running hard and tackling hard looking to pass first I'll be concerned that part of the game hasn't changed you still have to win in the middle to get the goodies on the outside later.
Coryn, get where you are coming from, but realistically the Storm should be winning this game by 20-30 points.
The Eels spine are playing their first NRL game together, 3 of which are debuting or a few games in.
On the other side you have 4 players who have played Origin, and the current NZ halfback, Australian & QLD Hooker & Australian & QLD 5/8, with over 600 combined NRL games.
I mean Munster has played almost as many representative games as Iongi, Volk, Smith & Hands have played first grade games.
It won't save Dylan Brown from being blamed, but, this is about as David V Goliath as you will see.
It doesn't excuse effort, commitment & attitude, nothing does. But, surely the Eels pulling off a win here is not the benchmark?
No it isn't the benchmark but making it easy for Melbourne is the angle I'm coming from.I'm more so looking for an honest effort at least making Melbourne work for it.
If we get lapped because we made it easy and make simple errors ill be disappointed.No one's giving us a shot and the faithful round here are ready to glass house our own players even though we $5-$6 dogs.
Yep, very fair.
There is no such thing as an acceptable loss when you're sick of being also-rans.
There is only the loss you can explain away - like 2 tries to 4 meaning didn't really trouble them but were not blown away - versus the loss that says nothing has changed (30+ scoreline against).
A win by 1 point is respectable.
Fair blog, Chiefy. Losing is always painful; hard to accept. But inevitable.
Talking about "respectable" losses is a bit like the "negotiating" stage in the 5-step greiving process.
Above all, I want a team and club I can respect, not just love. Play with pride. Play with courage.
If they fight and defend the line to the death. Are fit. Respect the ball. Tackle hard, run hard, chase hard. Hunt in packs. I can look up to that. Playing smart will help too (albeit harder without Moses and his kicking foot).
It would show habit patterns, that soft underbelly - and everything we've lacked, a oneness and deep resilience - are changing. Then, I can respect whatever the result is. It's a game of inches. A bounce of the ball.
It would give us a chance to win in every game, and every loss would then be just running out of time to win.
Love that last line, HOE.
Feel that's it for today, we need to see things have changed & will change, well said.
Really looking forward to seeing what weve started to build mentally.
