If you haven't done any of your own research about why Brian McDermott could be what the Eels need at this moment in time, have a look at this podcast from a few years ago.

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=34vq8p_i234

It's very impressive. He is thoughful and very considered in his messaging.

I feel that this guy would have a very positive impact on the entire Parramatta Club as an organisation - from top to bottom. If not as Head Coach, he is certainly the type of person required in another major role at this club.

I mentioned a couple of weeks back that I hadn't previously known much about McDermott. His name was familiar as someone who had played a bit of International footy once upon a time. I knew nothing of his upbringing or his life experiences prior to becoming involved in Rugby League as a player and a coach. You can just see that a lot of the things he talks about are super important for not only players, but for people in general.

The more I listen to his messaging and way of explaining things, the more I realise that I could certainly benefit from implementing some of his ideas into my own life situation and way of thinking.

The Knights are lucky to have him; at least for now...

  • Old School Eel, great stuff. His "Coach the Coaches" series is also great. Only a minority see his true value in the NRL world. An immense talent. I'm proud of you guys waving his flag. Whichever team he ends up coaching in the NRL one day will be my second favourite.

  • He would be the best coach since Jack Gibson in my opinion. If they sign anyone else it will be another number of years of failures

  • One of our member here did a fantastic post all about B McD. I wish I could find it now, it was an awesome post 4 or 5 weeks back. I read the post, watched the video you've posted and was sold too :)

    • hey found it here https://www.1eyedeel.com/forum/topics/the-parra-project-there-are-f... by Hell On Eels an awesome read and everything we need to address right here!

Amidst the head coaching saga, sit two young, hot things. No, not Jason Ryles and Josh Hannah, the rumoured leading candidates. Just look at Margi…
  • I'll tell ya now , I'm not somewhat  of a religious  person  but after  watching  that podcast I'm  praying  for parra  to give  Brian McDermott a go .

  • Most people on here believe he is our man but looks obvious now the club won't be going in that direction but I like your proposal we need a director of football, fuck O'Neill off and bring B Mac in

  • HOE & Co, I have liked the way he talks about having a vision, then working out plans and strategies for each person to contribute their part towards achieving it. Also, how he talks about having the guts or balls to try new ideas or systems with a risk of failure, but willing to push the idea aside if not working out and move on rather than dig heels in.

Hoist the sails of the Young Endeavour and send it north to pick him up from Newcastle Harbour. Crew the ship with our current squad, football department and board. Let Captain Mac outline his vision for the return voyage south and then west up the Parramatta River. Those that buy in to his vision can stay aboard. Those that don't can walk the plank.

    • Your first paragraph in summary absolutely nails what we need and tbh the very reason why we needed to move on!! exactly what a great coach does , brings the best out of each player for the common goal and if that don't work then change and yep it takes ballz.

      B.McD is The One!!

The way he speaks, (and from great experience) honestly fills me with confidence.

Really hope we get him and I'm sure Newcastle would be planning on him to be first cab for them soon too.

      • Yeah Macy, Have really enjoyed listening to some content with him. I've heard enough so far to be interested in looking for more just for my own personal benefit. Some good life lessons, advice and ways of thinking about change that could help me as a person, as a father and in my employment.

  • Well said, Old School. He's a highly evolved coach. Creative, adaptive and innovative (yeah like Jack, Cumberland Eel).

Knights might be better served to have him as their attacking coach as well as defensive coach.

He's prepared to take risks, yeah. Spot on Old School. He's come to Oz, as an unknown really. He could have taken a cushy role back home and won a few more tiltes. But he wanted to be part of the toughest, and best competition in the world. It's also evident in his Leeds teams. He'd risk failure, missing the finals and his job if it led to titles the following years.

As Gus once told Bellamy on a Ricky Stuart Sydney boat cruise (for his wife), when asked by Bellamy how long it takes to change a team's attack - "a few offseasons". It's not a magical click your fingers. You need to take the risk and have the balls to do something new.

The interesting things about McDermott's Leeds teams is they could rise to big games (81% finals; 4/4 grand finals). He'd beat the minor premiers - in the finals, when it counted - with fifth ranked and far inferior stat teams and not just one time. His teams could rise to the occasion.

PS: Gents, If it's any consolation, McDermott knows he has a bit of a fan club here with a fair few Eels' fans.
