Report: De Belin dropped for poor form

So we all wondered and thought how de Belin was going to be used, seems not at all. I give credit to Ryles who doesn't much around. No matter how many games, contract status you are not in the 17 if you are not good enough. Kelly seems to be in the same boat. They have missed on recruitment so far this year and that will happen. de Belin and Kelly can still have an impact off the field with juniors however.

  • Debelin could have worked out, but like I said previously, the new rules don't favour his expansive style,  they favour treasuring the ball and gaining ground through less risky plays.    Now you need forwards who can roll forward against tiring opponents.    Stefano Utokimanu's value went up from 850k to now 1.1 million because of it.

We need to find a prop who does this job well

    • De Belin defence also doesn't suit the modern game. In the trials he was going it really well in controlling the ruck. But since round 1 has started he can't do it because he will get pinged for a 6 again for slowing down the ruck or hand on ball. Attack was never his strength even when he was selected for nsw.

    • Do you think that Ryles didnt have the foresight to predict the change of pace of the game when he signed DeBelin knowing waht his skill set was?

  • I thought everyone knew he was dropped for form. If he was injured he wouldn't be in the team. And he got dropped outside the 17

  •  no one has put their name to the report it so speculation.

    • I don't think it's something that needs to be reported. I think the team selection implies that JR thinks he favours other players. Why else would someone not injured be placed outside the 17? Because the coach thinks other players are better

  • So what are we making of the JDB Kelly recruitment calls.Early I know but there not looking like anything better than we already had.

I mean I've never been a fan of Doorey at the best of times and now Russell has progressed both the mentioned worse case could be seeing cup duties.

    • I think at the time De Belin signing was good. No one would have known that the ruck would have changed after his signing. Under last years rules  De Belin would have been good as we saw during the trials. Plus with Brown and Guymer still developing our forward pack dept is fine.

Kelly as long as he is cheap is a fine option to keep as depth. Russel is playing like a first graader and well Penisni is stil hot and cold.

  • always thought DeBelin was reserve grade ability and thought signing him at his age was a mistake, Kelly at the titians was a strange 1, thought surely we had juniors would of been promoted and given time.

    • Doesn't really matter Shane, they still maybe handy at a point in time and it is not that we missed anyone because of us grabbing them.....JDB for example maybe very good against  a side like Penrith....Kelly I suspect was a gamble that failed, we all knew he had defensive issues but were hoping it was just the Titans......he had no idea when it came to systems, if he learns he could still be proven as a backup in the right circumstances.

NB I really believe that JDB is a victim of Pevit's poor defence, I think they picked Williams at lock to provide lateral cover for Pevitt.

Yehez replied to LB's discussion Report: De Belin dropped for poor form
"Wouldn't give up on Kelly yet. He has some tekkers about him and some pace, can deputise Addo-Carr if JAC goes origin. When Kelly is on form in an attacking side he can be fun. Good option still."

"De Belin and Kelly were both placeholder signings till the next batch are ready. Both are 30 or above. They'll be used this year when needed and the more time they spend with us they'll pickup form.
But if they don't work they don't work. No…"

Yehez replied to Eli Stephens's discussion RTS looking to return to Sydney
"We are the stage where we need big game or not at at all. Richie or Alemaddine, let alone a Samrani or even Twidle, won't be that much worse if at all than RTS next year. Might as well give them the games. "
