RECRUITMENT

Seems like every week there are good quality players coming onto the market or that are available that would add something to our team and roster but we aren't seeming to be as active in the player market as we were earlier this year. EG Keon. Barnett

Has anyone heard anything or have any news on any potential signings for 2027 /2028 we may look at? I still believe there is the basis of a very good football side at the Eels but we defintely need 1 or 2 additions of quality players at the absolute least

  • It wouldn't surprise if Sarantinos and O’Neill are on a 5 star Vegas familiarisation trip right now, rather than be hard at work fixing recruitment.

  • I'm ok with looking at it all at years end. If players start getting signed by other clubs more and more then I'll start reacting like most here.

Like we are all reacting, myself included, differently and negatively over certain reports. Let's see what they do as who knows what they might already have signed.

I mean let's say Jenkins, Timoko, Xerri and the likes all either stay or sign elsewhere, ok I'll be concerned earlier.

Though this club needs just one signing for now to keep the peace. Like announcing Jenkins for example will have many here feel a little more at ease. Announcing two at once like for example Jenkins and Leniu, that will put a lot of uneasy minds to rest for a little bit.

Though who knows what they want and what they are targeting right now. Though many here just want a signing, there are a few players that I would consider careful what you wish for the sake of signing.

  • I heard a fb this morning rumour that O'neill was in discussion with Tyson Gamble after the nsw cup game on Saturday

    • To be fair, Gamble was a junior at Wests when MON was there. So people can catch up.
If it is to sign him, as depth could be handy but also prioritise elsewhere if not signed anyone else.

      • gamble is actually a dolphins junior

        • Yes correction. More so meant he played there before debuting. For Western Suburbs.

Edit- scrap that, MON was sacked in 2016, Gamble signed in 2017. So no correlation.

    • oh god NO - no bloody aspiration to be a top 8 team

  • I don't think we have a bad squad, the rules changes the way we have to play and recruit. We're slowly getting use to the new rules of six against, we're only 3 elite signings away from being competitive again. As long as Ryles is coach we should be good, but again most of the elite players are off contract after 27. So I don't know where we go or who we buy my only guess is Jenkins and Burton for next year.

  • I've lost all confidence in our recruitment or lack of, who running this shitshow?
