RECRUITMENT

Seems like every week there are good quality players coming onto the market or that are available that would add something to our team and roster but we aren't seeming to be as active in the player market as we were earlier this year. EG Keon. Barnett

Has anyone heard anything or have any news on any potential signings for 2027 /2028 we may look at? I still believe there is the basis of a very good football side at the Eels but we defintely need 1 or 2 additions of quality players at the absolute least

    • Man that sounds about right

      • Yep. Its a total shambles and the results in recruitment and retention proves that point.

        #Sarantinos out

        #O'neill out

        # Ben Rogers out

        • You got to have a plan and replacements lined up before firing anybody.

What I suspect will happen the mentioned board members will sit there 9 yr terms much like McElduff the last chairman did then they'll move on.

Stability has caused these appointments sins of the past the club has to protect itself so if the chairman Beech thinks the guys you think need to be fired will serve that mentioned term.Even if someone more qualified becomes available at the board level I very much doubt we'd be looking at that person.I could be wrong but I didn't get the inference that we'd change out anyone on the board unless they one chose to move on themselves or 2 someone more eminently qualified was available.

So where does this leave fans like yourself who were told 3 years ago this would become an issue.Treat it like water off a ducks back accept this is how the club will be run and hope JR can pull rabbits out of his hat because at this point in time this is what it's going to look like to be competitive.Forget about winning a comp in the very near future that's just not happening. In the discussions I had with an ex employee he mentioned 4-5 years until we are competitive if certain things happen and go our way.

    • The board don't work on recruitment.

      • The board are responsible for those below them and Sarantinos answers to.them.   O'neill and the recruitment team have kpi's to be met meaning the board can recommend the sacking of those below them if the recruitment criteria isn't met.  The board are indirectly involved in recruitment so its their responsibility to set the club's standards as they see fit.   - so yes the board are responsible for recruitment

        • Chiefy, in your world everyone seems to be in charge of recruitment.

          • Super, I can see that you are in total defence of those responsible for the positionthe club is in  roster wise. Why i can't work out.  But eventually ill find out

Why don't you tell everyone why the recruitment team are doing a good job instead of attacking others comments.

I can see my above answer bothers you as it should.

            • Chief do you have paper articles stuck to your bedroom wall, with string attached linking all stories together like in those detective movies to catch the reason of your theory on Super? Haha.

    • Whomever Cregan is, I do wonder why "I know someone in the know" is taken seriously by folks as evidence?

On a side note, size in the forwards. Cregan says Eels were small vs knights but also implies recruitment is not fixing it. In 2026 the Eels have ran out three props each 188cm+ AND 110kg+: Tuivati, Maetele, and Brown (extended bench). The truly big props are all pushing 190cm while being 110kg+. So the Eels are in that ballpark.

Moretti is 188cm but 102kg, while Paulo is 110kg but 185cm. I don't count Doorey as he is a backrower (more lock); ditto Williams & Guymer. Eels have played backrow at prop due to injuries across the forwards.

Aside from it would be nice if claims like "not enough size" could be at least cross-checked, the issue in the forwards is not size. It's first contact technique. If Radley can be considered one of the most effective and aggressive tacklers in the game, its technique not simply size.

But also, it's a real question what is going to count in the game, sheer size or mobility despite size? Or both but not just one?
