the missed tackle stat goes to show how well we are defending now. Thanks Rick
It does indeed.
It's a testament to BA's philosophy on defence and the players buying into it that have really contributed to sound, sturdy defensive resolve.
Thanks again Rick, great stuff, manly get us in quite a few important departments there, the stats back up the fact we were a bit off our game, great to see us get a win like that when we wernt at our best.
S'all good, Snake.
Manly were certainly the better side for longer periods, that's for sure.
And their intensity early on caught us off-guard, to the point where they had us on the ropes.
It was only our defensive resolve that truly kept us in the game.
The inopportune errors for Manly and our defensive resolve were the reasons behind the win.
Ineffective tackles are defined as tackles that don't prevent a player from offloading the ball, so that wasn't a major contributor.
Manly couldn't crack our line for the most part and then tried adlib footy to win that didn't quite work.
I think big difference in our attack last week to this is the offloads (plus Manly played tough, Raiders didn't). We had plenty against Raiders. We will need those offloads next week against Cowboys otherwise could get ugly for us.
Our offloading has never been as dynamic as that of other teams.
But we're controlled in our offloads, so they're usually made/done when the opportunity is rife for it and not for the sake of it.
I certainly think they were.
Their intensity at different stages of the game had us well & truly on the ropes.
They started a hell of a lot better than we did and they pressed us on several occasions for sustained periods until about the 70th minute, when their forwards and players became tired.
We looked rather flat for portions of the game, unable to create genuine attacking opportunities. We scored three tries in 10 minutes from the 68th to the 77th. Before that, we weren't doing much and Manly had their own opportunities to score throughout.
Only our defence kept them out.
