Prove JT is a poor man-manager

A number of people have posted here that JT is a poor man-manager. Up to today, I have accepted that statement though I cannot recall anyone supplying evidence to back it up. So I am retracting my acceptance and calling for evidence.

First, are we talking the JT of today or the JT of 5-7 years ago. In what way is he a poor man-manager? Is he too pally with the players? Wayne Bennett looks pretty pally with his mob. Is JT too quiet? Wayne Bennett is pretty quiet.

A coach's successful interaction with players has four things at its core. 1. Mutual respect 2. Belief by players and coach that the team will improve and that each player will improve. 3. Consultation but with the unwavering understanding the coach has the final say.4. Preventing cliques and back-stabbing.

I think JT can achieve those four things.

  • Getting punched out by one of your own players isn't a great sign of man management.

Hopefully he has learnt from his mistakes, i think JT can coach and is the man to take us forward now Henry is out of the race but i have no doubt that incedent is the reason he has been stuck as an assistant.

    • How many second, third and fourth chances do players like Dugan, Fergo, Carney etc get? IMO JT is hungry for a FG coaching position and hopefully Parra will give him a chance to redeem himself. Has JT publicly stated that he is interested in coaching Parra? Parra need Bennett or JT!!
  • I don't recall too many people stating that around here. Majority are pro JT. Some people may have questioned his maturity in regards to people skills based on the famous mad Monday black eye.

I think JT would be more the fired up and more likely to tell someone what he really thinks rather than "quiet and pally". That probably would have been a problem in the past. I would assume by now he wouldhave the life experience to get the balance right.

Just bloody sign him already. By far the best available candidate.

  • The punch and the subsequent black eye from Fa'alogo should be considered ancient history. It was a rookie mistake by a rookie coach to go out getting pi$$ed with your players. He would have learnt a truckload since that happened. If that incident is supposed to represent the most overwhelming evidence of his poor man management issues then I think he'll be fine.

    Sign him up now Sharpie!!

  • The fact that he has been passed over for a number of first grade coaching gigs the past 4 years across a number of clubs (souths, parra, roosters) tells us that there must be something wrong with his head coaching abilities
    • And didn't he get punched in 2009? That is only 4 years ago
    • Neil Henry was 46 before he got his his appointment as A-Grade coach. Vince Lombardi also was 46 before becoming a first-grade coach. What you are saying about JT being passed over does not prove they are right. And he does have the record of coaching two rookies of the year in his brief stints at FG coach. Also his win/loss record is not too shabby for those stints.

  • So glad you posted this Bernie.. I too would like to know why people say that. The only person that I know to have had direct contact, say the opposite is true.

Maybe this all about the mad monday thing which he successfully sought out of court compensation in 2010 for wrongful dismissal and clear his name of wrongdoing. I can understand it would not have been a good look the sponsors at the time though, hence the sacking. Unfortunately mud sticks!

Think he would have learnt a lot from the whole experience.. and has worked hard to get back and have faith in his own ability. Anyway, we can sure do with a hardworking 'fighter' like him at the moment!
