Not quite right Michael, Ryles states what type of player he is after and the recruitment committee then work out between them all how much they have, who's available, who to talk to and what to offer. Ryles is but one cog in a system of 4 people when recruiting.
We know what and whom Ryles has asked for and the committee headed by Mark O'Neill, Ben Rogers and the CEO / Board have come back empty handed. A week later they usuallt declare a new signing consisting of either "an old man or youth with potential" with great booyah !
Go and read Supers post re MONs explanation. I know you didn't believe how it works when I mansplained it to you 3 years ago. So maybe you'll listen to Supers version. MON listens to what Ryles asks for and tries to get him the best version, if he can't he finds as close as possible within the budget he allows. Agents won't take you to a 2+ million dollar house on the beach if you only afford a 750k house. He'll take you to a place on the stinking Brisbane River and tell you same / same , it's on the water as requested. You can still buy your Sea Doo Leb sled and make it work.
Brisbane is a river city, as is Parramatta, you live in a coal town with a steel works, if I was an agent and you walked in I would refer you a Shelter down the road!
As it stands shanty and shitty describe you well!!!
PS At least we have a International Airport at Kellyville!! if you miss your flight you can scooter to Cumberland Oval, it takes about 10 minutes, with a toilet stop and a bag of fruit.
Yeah nice , enjoy your stinking Brisbane creek city. I'm sure it serves a great purpose for ex NSW residents looking for somewhere they can afford to own .
Wollongong once again has been voted in the top 5 best places to live in Australia , but hey , you do you , Boo. Maybe one day I'll let you camp out the back for one last luxury holiday before you are put in your full time care home.
Ouch!............ Wollongong maybe a fine place to live but think how much better it would be if you left with the 13 Lomax's you cannot find and moved to Kellyville.
One last luxury holiday? .......but I'm already in a full care home.....MINE Lol
Gentleman, basically Ryles is our Alex Ferguson. Coach, final R&R decision-maker, roster designer and selector rolled into one.
"The roster always has been, always will be and always should be Jason's roster." Jim Sarantinos explained (Oct 24).
"No player joins the roster without the coach’s sign off and no one leaves the roster without the coach’s sign off."
"The coach sets the strategy, then the Coach, GM Football and Head of Recruitment then work together to secure the talent. The CEO and Chair are a sounding board."
Near fits to Ryles strategy aren't enough. Unless Ryles is happy or convinced no R&R decisions happen.
Virtually that's what's been said. Of course MONs not telling him " you must have this player ". But he's also there to tell him " we can't have this player " or " the budget won't allow you to have this player" . The main point that needs to be acknowledged is that the coach has virtually fuck all to do with how much a players getting paid. Neither now , or when the big bad wolf BA was here k as much as we'd all love to belive he was soley responsible for the outrageous contacts that were dished out during his tenure. . That's MONs job to balance. Hence the point about how Ryles may say he's wanting player X , and why MONs job is to say " budget won't allow player X , but how about player Y , who's similar and half the age / price , and that will also allow you to get player Z "
Then yes Ryles will agree / disagree to this scenario OR , request we find a way ( fucking off more deadwood ) to make player X a possibility .

Of course Wiz. We're not playing Supercoach, and it wouldn't be a linear process. Scouts, BR, MON & the R&R team would run ideas past Ryles on top of any targets Ryles might have. A team effort say.
Williams & Iongi have long been in the Eels sights pre-Ryles, but it's Ryles who said Yes. I suppose BA didn't need them with the likes of Matto, Lane, RCG, Gutho etc. His men.
Being a bottom-half to near basement team for a few seasons makes it much tougher for R&R, and it means you have to make even better recruitment decisions.
The hard-cap is a nightmare for all clubs, too. Panthers have a 21-22 man team. Gus uses Claude and advanced-AI with a small army of humans to manage the cap. It's good the club decided to move away from player options in May 2023, shortly after the grand final, even at the risk of losing some players. You can't manage the cap well with players options, especially in larger quantities.
Each to their own with BA. I don't care about the past as much and now and tomorrow, other than learning lessons from it. I gave BA the benefit of the doubt for years, and even supported him at one point and copped a few sprays for it (as a medocrity-loving BA apologist). But, I changed my view on him many reasons — not just based on performance — but especially after I found out what he'd be up to. Our Jeckyl-Hyde teams, reflect him. I think he became compromised at some point in his long tenure. He was not really a Brian Smith, Club-First career coach despite the media love for him. Ryles is a very different coach, but he could be. Dunno yet.
Honestly, I don't know if Ryles era will bring a title or great success (wins matter over culture) or what will happen with his career, but he's much better for the club and probably a far better coach than BA ever will be.
Funnilly , from discussions I've had with an Ex NRL coach in the past, it's more like SuperCoach than you may think 😂. Imagine a team of your mates all building one team , to play against other teams of mates. You'll have people with difference visions , opinions and skills , all trying to work towards the same goal. Also funnilly enough this same guy was in our comp once , he was at the time winning comps as a lower grade NRL club coach , but couldn't win our SuperCoach comp . I guess that demonstrates how important having good people with the other skills and visions on your management team is.
"@super, out of topic, an Eels player from SG ball named Phoenix Tauasa had been reported in DT being charged with robbery. Does he have the potential to play FG in the future? If so, that will be very bad for himself and the team"

"Well hoe us fans can't keep up with the new kids in town at the moment. It hasn't been in the club’s DNA for a decade under the bush coach.
Previously, we were lucky to have one dev player coming through every 2 seasons. 😄😄😄.

Bluey, trust us on this one, its like any agent looking for a house for a client. The agent will not be telling the buyer he has to live in it!
