I think it would be unfair to say that the halves pairing won Bronco's the game, Reynolds off injured, Hunt off HIA.....
Why start this way after a great GF, where'e the revelance of that opening?
I say this because there seems to be a discussion (on the 1EE) about old players and young players.....seemingly about coaching styles. Not the Storm Coach but of all things the Parramatta Coach.
The reality is both coaches Bellamey and Maguire did a great job, the discussion should be more about the depth and lets not mention "Reece Walsh". Before you start raving about coaches and the like, you could/would (unless your blind) say that Walsh single handedly got them(Broncs) to the GF and equally so, won it for them.......... Coaching aside!
Lets move back to this discussion and the debate over whether Maguire was a huge mistake on our part in not grabbing him instead of Ryles.
Well I am going to say that argument is subjective and whilst I have an opinion I think it bears discussion rather than debate, one thing I am certain of is that Maguire is not 10 times better coach than Ryles.
I support Ryles for his vision and the way he has handled this/his mission.
Someone else can say what Maguire would have done if he had been appointed the same time as Ryles, I am certainly not knocking him and I am not a great believer in he can only win with "stars" in his team. It can be argued in someways that you have to be a special coach to even do that, as many coaches have failed with "star laden" teams!
Now if you wanted to start afresh tomorrow with Ryles and Maguire as the two applicants and knowing what we know now after yesterdays Grand Final. Who would you pick as your coach for Parramatta and why?

I think you have to be of the acceptance that JR is our guy rightly or wrongly he's our guy.
We'll never no if Maguire wanted our job so one can only speculate. But id suggest if he had a choice he'd have taken the Brisbane job regardless
Bennett didn't want Parra
Bellamy same same.
What fascinates me Is system vs athletes I think we are going to be of the first mentioned as like you mentioned Pops we have no one in the same area code as Walsh his finals performance harks back to Jarryd Hayne type individual performance levels.
Now if we are talking coaches Billy Slater for mine he's the one if we could have got is the only regret I have he has long term nrl coach written all over him.I think JR is in this category also.In the end I think we walked into the right guy.I don't have any regrets missing on the first 3 I mentioned.
Can you just not like someone. Like, from what i have seen of him (limited), I just wouldn't like him as a bloke.Seems like an arsehole
I would start by saying that I prefer Ryles because I don't like Madge... Not his "CoAcHInG AbiLiTy". Him. Personally.... I just don't fucking like the bloke .
He seems to drive players, not inspire them. We need inspiration....and i think he is a bit of a wanker who needs shortening up. Actually, Ryles could do a gteat job on him!!! Now there is a fight I'd watch...I pay I pay
Randolph, I sort of understand your emotion but when you become drug free and normal you will find many people don't like others because of various rreasons, in your case "you just don't like him" is difficult, .......when you sat on Santa's knee last Xmas, did you like him because he was Santa Clause or just the fact that the guy behind the beard was a nice bloke.
BTW I think your therapy is coming on good.....today I want you to think of Madge Maguire as a husband, father of a beautiful daughter and a son that wants to play footie with Dad. The fact that he is probably a cranky old bastard that doesn't suffer fools gladly can be put away for a month before he has you vomiting in your socks again.
In my personal life, I do not like quite a few arseholes who are "husband, father of a beautiful daughter and a son that wants to play footie with Dad." So the arsehole has a kid. Cool Beans
Are you saying that wether the guy is an arsehole is irrelevant? I'm not Robinson Caruso here in thinking he is a bit of a cockhead
I think in those tems you are the cockhead when making that judgement without knowing him.
Robinson Crusoe only had Man Friday to talk to, if it was just you and him, my guess is your comeradie would improve, but the sex wouldn't change!
Getting Madge to fix Parra be like
Not a bad reply Randy. Ryles is a big bloke and could handle himself against any coach InThe NRL.
The coaching assignments for Parra and Broncs are totally different. Let's be honest it's about time the Broncs won with the squad they have. They blew Penrith off the park 2 years ago only for a mixture of implosion, luck and brilliance from Penrith it didn't happen for them. A squad that consists of Walsh, Cobbo, Shibasaki, Staggs, Reynolds, Mam, Hunt, Carrigan, Haas should be winning comps. Is there any other side close to 9 rep players
AE, you are right of course but at the end of the day it was about the discussion coaching.
I could have written about the game and it's qualities but I asumed that has been well discussed already. Your argument about the quality of the squad is relevant from a point of view that Bronco's have huge advantages and historically they have underperfomed in that sense..... that may create a lead into a discussion on the merits of the coaches performance.
Madge has a set of skills which have been shown to work in certain circumstances. He is great at instilling the winning edge and supreme fitness in a talented side. Compare him to BA - in the year we made the GF Madge would have stood a much better chance of getting us across the line, but he wouldn't have had a hope in hell of building the side to that point like BA did.
Parra right now are NOT the Broncos. We aren't stacked with talent, X factor or experience to their level. If we ever get to that point then a pivot to someone like Madge to finish the job might be worth thinking about. But right now we need someone to strap in for the long haul and build a team...that is definitely not Madge.
Let's also wait and see whether the Broncos can maintain the rage or whether the Madge burnout effect kicks in and the players start to become less effective over the next season or two. Madge is great in short bursts to get a job done, you just don't want to let him outstay his welcome (not unlike Gould and his club building).
