Now we currently have a system in place that is called "the golden point" but we don't play for that..... we play for 2 points. WHY!
Well lets set some basic premises..... our game is all about TV Rights and coverage, whilst arguable this game is built for a TV audience, its reflected in the ratings. The reason it exists in its current high profile is because of the money it generates from a electronic audience. The Golden Point is a gold mine for the Broadcaster and has to stay as way of keeping fans on the edge of their seats/lounge chairs.
Can you remember the day that we went home disappointed because it was a draw and of course it was a lucky one or one where we deserved to win and didn't. BUT we still got a point! Well most of you probably can't but I know how I felt back in the day.
I think it is worse to go 80 minutes, get a draw and then potentially go home with nothing.......the current situation.
There is an argument that the teams are then playing for an available 3 points and not two......I just don't have a problem with this. If we want that sort of equity in the game, you could look everywhere for anomalies.
GO back to the original opening Paragraph.....i.e GOLDEN POINT that is singular to me.
Now with regard to the commercialism, at present the 2 Tribal groups supporting a game, one walks away pissed off and the other is relieved that they won, maybe even because of a flukey circumstance that created a field goal.
There can be a lot of discussion on a "golden try" etc, but that leads to deliberate penalties to position same that would entitle a win by a penalty goal. I do not have a problem with that and if a draw was still enabled it would be fair, but also unlikely as a field goal would still be the chaser. Unless they elimanated Field Goals in the Golden Point Period...... not a bad idea actually?
I had this discussion with a good friend recently and he defended the current system vociferously.....I feel just as strong that the team drawing at the end is at least entitled to a point and it will make for a more interesting "table" regardless.
Over to you my friends, but I am told I will be smashed on my view!
PS Coming up with a better solution is an obvious answer, but you cannot go back to nothing and call a draw a draw because you would be negating the TV rights which is the life blood of the game. I know and accept that is a point that some find distateful.

I don't like golden point in its current format. The rules are rarely followed during golden point. I would much rather see 2 5 minute periods with only a try ending the game. Teams can still kick a field goal or penalty goal but only a try finishes the game.
I agree, that's what you call golden try. It encourages the play that everyone loves and I would imagine allows the ref toref the game in a normal fashion.
Deciding a great game by field-goal (let's face it 90% of the time, that is the outcome in golden point), is absolute garbage. Just f*ck it off and got back to sharing the points. Problem solved.
I would prefer to see a reduction of players on the field in extra time.
That would fix the predictability of golden point
