Will 5150 wrote an excellent post that referred to our CULTURE. This prompted me to think how easily we use the word without actually understanding what it means, my views are no different.
I agree in general with you Will 5150 and I think you have identified the "subjectivity" but maybe not the "objectivity".
Culture is becoming a difficult word to "quantify" Its become too easily alluded to without understanding "it now" !
I think the culture of this site means well but it betrays everything that you are looking for in Parramatta, loyalty, understanding and circumstantial empathy......not to mention going off "half cocked".
No better than the negativity around our recruitment of JAC ......definitely does not identify with the culture you are promoting but a guy once he has arrived has had a tremendously positive influence on our "team" culture.
As i said I agree with you in culture being an issue for Parra, but I feel we have to create it before we live it. (maybe that's vice versa I am not sure either). I suppose I am saying it needs to evolve!
I don't think in the recruitment of an indivual you can be positive his/her effect can have on morale and culture. Its more a judgement when recruiting him/her agreeing that they are willing to be part of the culture we are trying to create and them wanting to be inclusive of it.
Penrith were once no different, Storm have created a special culture.....is the Rooster's culture a totally positive one? the same for the Broncs..... its not easy in the 80's Parra developed that special culture through Gibson and it was briefy mirrored by Monie but we then lost it via "immature" management after that and by the time we got into the 2000's we were for once starting a new culture only to again lose it via bad luck and weak management.......do those two things go together?
We enter this era post the foundation building that BA was part of and then lost, again through weak management (both coaching and administration). I think some of those management lessons have been re learnt and I am hopeful Ryles can take us there. Jim Saratinos has the makings of becoming an excellent CEO with the lessons he has been exposed to. The jury is most certainly out on the retention /recruitment group. The new coaching structure will hopefully give them a direction, with that General Manager Football yet to appear?
Lets include here that the weak management /administration was in the football area and not the financial. The improvement in that area was marked and should not be overlooked in judgement.
I see no more excuses for weak management, either the current group becomes refined to matching the coaching standard or we are back in the hole! That seems to be happening as well as there is now a definite sync between financial and football.
How would you individually explain "CULTURE" in one a broad sense and two as a "PARRAMATTA Rugby League thing"
If people want to be negative then fine but in identifying the problem, offer a solution, if its personal offer an alternative. Its easy to be a " Seagull" "Shit" and then fly off again.
PS Don't get lost on the Dyllan Brown thing, try to be more generalised and then refer back to it if you must.

Cheers for 1920's meme, I'll feed it into A.I. for a translation
Well what would you expect from an old bastard!
One word.....ATTITUDE
Nice Rhetoric Anal, but you need some sort of adjective before it.....Good, Bad, Indifferent, Fraudalent, Cheating ???
Pops a great post.
A winning culture that feeds off unity and the desire for others to want to join in, is what I think we are after as a club.
To get there we needed a strong Leagues club with continuity to fund and drive the change.
Along the way we had to be at the forefront of player facilities, stadium / Centre of Excellence Training facilities.
Now we need these achievements to overflow into the playing side of things. The right players and the right coach's.
We have acheived so much as a club, that was not too long back looking at mergers with the Tigers and Panthers, about to go bankrupt after the Spagnolo / Sharp eras.
Our club has positioned itself very very well.
So we start the process within the football dept now.
1. Clear Vision
2. Character over Talent
3. Accountability at playing, coaching and recruitment level
4. Instill and promote sense of ownership and buy in
5. Celebrate when things go good in the moment
6. The winning culture is the journey not the destination.
Brilliant Bluey.....number 6 cannot possibly say it any better than that.
I would say that is my culture identified with Parra, a long and passionate supporter who has always wanted us to be competitive and respected.....a regular top 4 side and premierships will happen.
For awhile there I thought BA had us on that path but ultimately he lost his way.....I think about the time that JA appeared on the scene and I regard that as a great disappoinment because I strongly believe unless you are a Cleary, then parents should not be coaching their kids at this level.
Finally whilst I acknowledge the longevity of Bellamey I cannot believe that coaches should hang around for more than 5 years. That said the Melb culture again comes into question. The carry on's, language and temper tantrums he delivers at nearly every match is hardly a recipe for a good culture....but it happens and it works? Who am I to argue?
Pops & Bluey, great blog & fantastic posts.
Like Pops, Bluey number 6 resonates. Well said.
Pops, for me culture in any organisation, takes the right personalities (spirit over talent), absolute leadership, clear & defined goals, and above all else selflessness & sacrifice... sacrifice for a unified objective, for your teammates, for something bigger than yourself.
All easier said than done of course.
The best case study for rebuilding culture imo is the Detroit Lions & how Sheila Hamp targeted specific personalities in coaching, who in turn targeted specific personalities in players (not the best players, players with grit & heart), to rebuild this club from one of the least successful franchises for decades to now a SuperBowl favourite this year.

The Eels culture appears to be changing under JR?
First episode was great, the positive news is our club can turn things around real quickly with the right people - thanks for sharing NOS I looked the NFL ladder and the Lions are 15/2 nothing stopping the mighty eels from bouncing back hard and playing finals footy this season
Absolutely Mick, well worth a watch isn't it, good on you for having a look.
Detroit turned it all around in 2-3 seasons, and as you would've seen, it came from serious planning and culture, the right leaders, the right coaches, the right players (not necessarily the best players) who had heart & grit and could identify with & take Detroit as a city along with them. This is something JR seems to be doing with building ties with the community of Parra?
They copped it for buying Goff as their starting QB, now they are serious contenders to beat other favs -KC, Buffalo & the Ravens who have the top 3 QB's in the sport.
The turnaround was incredible for anyone watching NFL. The Lions are the best example of the power of culture in sport, imo.
We can 100% turn it around at the Eels Micky.
Well said NOS, completely agree.
