So basically an article about how we have so many players off-contract at the same time. This is due to us using player options, i actually like the idea of player options in deals, though only for certain players. Bailey Simonsson has an option for 2024, i like that as if he has an average 2023 we can cut ties, or keep him if he has a good 2023. For someone like Moses and his importance, do not want to risk putting yourselves in that position, as they have done now.

Did this really have to be rehashed yet again
The options have nothing to do with the situation. Every club uses options
Brett obviously every club uses options
im saying how we use our options and how frequently and for which players, would the Roosters give Tedesco or Manu an option? Doubt it, but would they give say Tupouniua or Crichton options? Perhaps. You say options have nothing to do with this situation yet Moses declining his option for 2024 means he is talking to clubs now.
But if we hadn't given him the option two years ago, he would've been abke to negotiate a new deal last year alongside Reed Mahoney & co.
But instead you give guys like Moses a three year deal, not a two year deal with an option for a third. That is what i am saying.
Guys like Hodgson it makes sense having his second year as an option, but when you have Moses you know you want him long term, you sign him for three-four years no option.
You're assuming he wanted a three year deal. I think he knew his value was going to spike right now and he made damn sure he was going to be in prime position to maximise his next deal. Good luck to him.
Well he would want a long term deal, but im saying regardless of wanting a two, three, four or five year deal he should not have an option involved anywhere.
Well if he asked for one, the club obviously felt they had to give it. The NRL is a halfbacks league, they are worth their weight in gold, they have all the leverage, they know it, the clubs know it, which is why they are the highest paid players in the game as a rule. They want it, they pretty much get it within reason. There really is no future in trying to negotiate them down. They know that at any given time there will at least 5 or 6 potential suitors who will pay what they want. It gives enormous leverage. If MM &/or DB want to make everyone wait for another 12 months, they could.
That's a scary thing that they could make everyone wait. Brown i think will make people wait for a while. Moses not so much as i think he will make his decision once the salary cap is rubber stamped.
do you think it matters what you think LB, this is not the end of the universe and the only groups that have got this out of hand are IEE and the media....the incumbents and the club are sitting on their hands waiting for the NRL result......fcuk how hard to understand is it!
