Poaching high profile Union players

What about the nrl take Union head on & do something adventurous. (similar to what afl did)Assist in poaching a high profile NZ All Black to play league (possibily for the Warriors) or even a South African Union player (I think it wld b prefect for when the new Perth team are introduced)I can definitely see a Perth team & second NZ team as being a possible expansion destinations in the near future & who's to say not a South African team in the distant future. ???Alternatively thinking outside the box here, poach a high profile Melbourne born afl player to play league wit the storm. Even if he plays couple of games & gets smashed it wld b money well spent on attracting new viewers.Do you really think the afl see the failures of Israel & Karmichael Hunt in afl as wasted money? I didn't watch their games but I kno of ppl tht did watch their 1st afl game when they were playing.

  • The NRL are too amateur to expand, it's all talk and no action.
  • Simply can't afford it, and there is not enough appeal for a current elite player to make the switch.

Countries were losing too many of their international stars (rugby) because they were signing with European clubs or Japan, so they now let them play overseas for short stints. The top players can earn up to $1 million dollars for playing a handful of games in Japan at seasons end. That's on top of their Super Rugby and International contracts.

Union players can travel the world and earn the equivalent to our elite players which is much more appealing then traveling to Belmore, Penrith and Campbelltown every second week.

As for recruiting AFL players, not only would they miserable failures and lucky to make NSW Cup, they would be going home in body bags. The NRL is simply too physical.

  • I think if there was ever a chance to sign David Pocock as a covert we should jump at it.  I doubt however if we, or any other NRL club could match the money he could make in Rugby.  He's the only Wallaby I would consider.

  • Because Union players are crap
  • I think I did hear about an AFL player getting signed to league recently... Here you go:

  • Only open side flankers and backs can transition to league as the other forwards are built for scrummaging, lineouts and breakdowns not power running.
Great RU converts include Phil Hawthorn, John Brass, Russel Fairfax and the best one ...Ray Price of course.

Plus it frees up some spots like we all know who 5/8 will be but now no idea."
