If it's the cost of having them removed then that was the same discount we got for agreeing to them in the first place. Otherwise we wouldn't have agreed to them. Likewise, if we were giving them away for free, every player would have them. But most players would rather more cash up front than a PO.
So you are claiming the players took a discount to have the clauses inserted, this is possible but I doubt it.
The whole purpose of the clauses for the players is to give them bargaining power and stability if they get injured or their form gets so bad no other club would sign them for what they are on.
It's win win for player, lose lose for club. Thank God we got rid of them.
If it's a lose for the club, and I agree it is, then the clubs must get something in return. That something is a discount or else why would clubs agree to them?
Desperation to get the deal done, some clubs, the good ones, have strong negotiators, the eels didn't.
If they were desperate they could just offer more money and have a weaker roster. Not offering POs doesn't stop a club from being desperate. It just means they have to pay more under the cap.
Likewise, plenty of other clubs offer POs, including the Storm. Did they lack strong negotiators or did they just see POs as a way to avoid paying too much?
Once again because you can't seem to grasp the point. Even if the club is desperate, it doesn't mean they have to offer a PO. Why not just give the player more money and fit less talent under the cap? If your answer is that the club would have a weaker roster by paying more, you should be able to understand why clubs use player options to reduce costs.
Points taken Pou, just the same the discount has to have a starting point from a base and as you and me both know, no one at Parramatta is going to leak his real price and do we actually think that "managers" tell the truth.....amazing thing is that Wiz as an executive soft drink salesman sits in the private boxes and has things blown up his arse that only he could relate to.....surprsingly enough I suspect he doesn't make the front table at Parra, he cannot afford the airfares from Kellyville.
The starting point is whatever salary the player wants to re-sign. Suppose he wants $1.3M and the club says our cap is too tight and we can't go above $1.1M. Then the player comes back with a request for $1.1 plus two years worth of player options. This is something that doesn't impact the cap during the non-option years, so it's an easy give for a club facing cap pressure.
Do you think it's a coincidence that our roster has declined in quality since we supposedly stopped offering POs?

Moses is both over rated and under rated depending on the day or situation.
He deserves his rep jerseys in saying that if im picking the next best NSW half is Katoea.
If we cut our losses with him for walker it would be the most significant signing in 20 years but wont happen.
he is on 1.3. was 1.2 and went up to 1.3 to take out the clauses. I agree with Badel, Moses has won us nothing and plays good sticking to the structure but when he plays eyes up he is a headless chook. his running game has gone backwards and Volkman on 1/3 of his wage is more dangerous then Moses. Everyone gushes over his kicking that goes straight to the fullback or winger and they make 10 or more metres on return. Auther said he was free to leave if he can find another club when he was the half with Norman we would of been better off if he left, would of had better players now with the money we would of saved. Has never been worth 1mil and never will.
