Watch the latest Anasta podcast-

Straight from the horses mouth,  " Parramatta - Ryles, never offered Jonah Pezet a long-term deal"   He says Parramatta only ever wanted Pezet for one year.

The conversation was always 1 yrar.

So all the talk about the club being used, and all the cuckold blogs,  you can just flush them.

He also says the kids Parramatta have coming through are the succession plan.

  • Well we sort of know that now that Parra wanted him for a year, not really a revalation. But Chief, Anasta is going to say what is best for his client, what is best for his client is to keep the clubs he is at happy somewhat

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PeI_Ok_9boQ listen to 13:28. Did he let slip Parramatta wanted long term? No way around it, we are developing him to be better for Brisbane. Great back-up to Moses but if Talataina is not ready in 2027, then what? We are back to square 1.

    • That's a load of bs.  Why would Anasta contradict himself and now say we didn't want him long term

That was just Anasta pumping up Pezet's tyres when he agreed with the question.  He was probably on a high after just getting tge deal done

This time around nobody prompted Anasta,  he said on his own accord that we didn't want him long term

So which version do you want LB, the one where nobody was prompting him or the one where he just agrees with yea yea.?

      • If we don’t want to develop players who eventually go to other clubs, then we might as well stop recruiting and shut down the juniors, because plenty will.

No club doing their due diligence wastes time on a contract without talking through a recruit’s long-term intentions. Look before you leap & all that jazz.

Regardless of what Ryles may have "wished" for at any point in time, he and the top-end knew from day one that Pezet wants to be a genuine, long-term seven.  They also knew the Broncos were the best long-term fit for him.

You could’ve hired a hypnotist and it wouldn’t have changed that. It’s not complicated, and it’s not the drama we make it out to be. Just reality, plain and simple.

By the way, guess who else signs players to one-year deals? The Panthers. Are they dopes?

      • Well he sounded all over the place on the podcast. Maitua asked did Parramatta want him long term and he said of course they did.

He said in the same podcast it was meant to be a loan but also answered we wanted him long term.

So just pumping his tires saying of course we wanted him long term? How is that so? When he spent the whole 15 mins doing so anyway?

So your response to him saying yes we wanted him long term was prompting and/or peer pressure. If that leads him to giving false info he shouldn't be podcasting or in media. Why would he say it was meant to be a loan then say oh yeah Parra wanted him long term, he gets nothing out of admitting it.

You saying he was prompted is a cop out and a stretch. It's like him saying it's not about money with Melbourne then Maitua saying Pezet asked for more money didn't he and Anasta saying of course he did hahaha. Why say that or agree? When Maitua asks that question he shouldn't have said no it was a loan all along.

I am a big Jason Ryles fan, but man this bloke could kick a puppy and you would say it's justified. BA could cure cancer and say it was not him just took the credit.

        • LB,

If you’re in charge, are you honestly throwing out a multi-million, 4–5-year contract without talking to the player about what they actually want to do for those years? For fun?

Sure, maybe Ryles hoped Pezet could become a long-term option in the halves. They seem to have a connection. So did I and half this forum. But it would’ve taken Ryles and the club a conversation less time than 2-minute noodles to find out Pezet wants to be a genuine, long-term seven. I'd say he knew aeons ago. Not an apprentice bridesmaid to Moses for 4-5 years.  He'll be 24 when he starts his full-time Broncos gig at half-back. He's waited long enough. He doesn't want to start at 27-28. Can you blame him? You don’t need to be Einstein to see that. Blind Freddy in a straightjacket could figure it out.

Anasta said “of course” we wanted Pezet long-term in that first podcast. But “of course” is not a contract term carved into stone tablets. In neither podcast did he ever say the Eels offered a long-term contract. Not once. When he actually discussed negotiations in that “of course” podcast, he only ever talked about the short-term negotiations.

The idea the club was “used”, “fooled”, or “cuckolded” only works if you pretend the Eels walked into negotiations blindfolded, their fingers in their ears and nostrils, moonwalking sideways with a hynoptist.

          • Since you're throwing it out there, I wouldn't offer pezet a multi year deal nor would I offer him a 12 month deal. He's the perfect fit for the broncs, he has no place with us.

If our developing halves aren't ready for first grade leave Papalli at 5/8 or even Dylan Walker for 2026 (maybe not ideal but it's better than whatever the outcome will be with pezet for a single season).

Much of that discussion with Anasta focused on how pezet will benefit from his time at the eels. When it comes to how the eels will benefit the conservation drys up pretty quick.

I've been a huge fan of Ryles this season however the two blemishes on his scorecard are he took to long to remove Dylan brown from first grade once it was announced he was going to the knights and this pezet deal.

            • Fair enough, Adam. Also, I agree with you that Walker has the footy IQ to be a stop-gap. Not sure it'll come to that though. Still, I suspect Ryles likes high-IQ halves; even at six.

One theme in his era has been raising the average IQ across the park, even if it raises the average age. I suspect that's a reason he didn't panic (as much as us) about losing our highest paid players in Dylan or Lomax, despite being elite talent in some areas, especially physically.

          • Anasta said the plan was always a loan then says yeah we wanted him long term? Which is it?

Not once did i say offer him a 4-5 year deal, plus i have said not to give a deal for the sake of giving deals. Anasta is acting as if we signed DCE who can bring excellence to the club for a year and help us in the future. He has played 18 NRL games for crying out loud.

I didn't say the club has been fooled, they knew what they were doing, at the same time i do not agree with it.

            • LB, good post mate. The thing is: Reality trumps whatever we agree or disagree with. Roosters signed DCE for a year. Panthers signed Lussick for a year. We signed Pezet for a year.

So, we're making mountains out of ant mounds on here about it because it suits our narratives and perceptions. "Club is dumb" . Cuckolded. Again. Not taking about you, by the way.

You ask "which is it", short-term or long-term? I explained how "both" could be true. Easily. Here's the opposite. We saw Lomax as a "long-term", now we don't. Reality. You wouldn't ask which one is it, would you? A binary question, assumes a binary, static, fixed world.

Sure, Anasta, all agents, need to pump their clients' tyres. And? Anasta and Ryles are close, so Anasta would know Ryles thinks the world of Pezet. Plenty besides Ryles would love Pezet long term, right? "Of course". I would. But, reality beacons. Broncos are the best long-term fit for him. Probably of any club, right now. Anasta knows it's, Ryles knows it. Our club knows it. Pezet knows it. Reality.

The problem we have on here (not you) is we assume the club is dumber than we are. I'm not saying that's bad. It's good therapy, another reality, and good theatre to an extent. But the actual wider reality is something else.

              • Oh yeah it could have started with us reaching out wanting long term, Pezet saying he wanted to play 7, Brisbane coming in and wanting him but not til 2027. He either stayed at Melbourne for 2026 or played FG at Parramatta in 2026 and we felt there was something that could help us so took the loan anyway so to speak.

Though i do not agree with it, i will still support Pezet as he is a Parramatta player.
