Parra Stripped of 20 points!!!

NRL strips Parramatta Eels of twenty points over salary cap breaches

PARRAMATTA Eels have been stripped of twenty points and fined a total of $1.6 million after being found guilty of long-term third party salary cap breaches.

NRL chief executive Todd Greenberg announced they would not be allowed to participate in the 2016 NRL finals series.

Investigations revealed the Eels maintained direct connections with companies involved in player 3rd party agreements , with the club confirming on Sunday that emails guaranteeing extra payments were stored in a secret file.

"The most damning indictment is the attempts by persons within the club to conceal payments from the NRL, it would now seem certain from the club's board will stand down immediately."

"It was through guaranteeing 3rd party contracts that they were able to attract and retain some of the biggest names in rugby league.

"In doing so they have let down the game, the players and the fans of the Parramatta Eels."

Greenberg added the Eels need to quickly find a way to rectify the situation to have any chance of regaining their status in the competition.

"Certainly by the 2017 season they need to be operating within the salary cap and how they do that I'm not sure at this stage," he said.

Leading sports bookmakers Sportingbet Australia this morning suspended wooden spoon betting after a series of bets on the Eels at $251 to finish last.

Rumours swept league circles in the past months that the Eels would lose their premiership points and face a hefty fine.

Canterbury were stripped 37 premiership points in 2002 and were also fined $500,000.

The Storm were the most recent violators of the salary cap, being stripped of 2 premierships and starting the 2011 season stripped of all available points and having to operate under a reduced salary cap, as well as pay a $1,000,000 fine.

Parramatta skipper Kieran Foran was implicated last year with the club including a million dollar walk out clause unheard of in Rugby League.

The Eels face the Cowboys saturday night, and will be forced to sit out all 2016 recruits.

Plus it frees up some spots like we all know who 5/8 will be but now no idea."
