Since Mark O’Neill joined Parramatta in 2019, the club’s junior development output has fallen well short of expectations, with very few genuine NRL-standard players progressing from the system into the top 17. Despite strong junior pathways on paper, the transition from development squads to consistent first-grade performers has been limited, leaving the club increasingly dependent on external recruitment to fill key roster spots.
The main players to emerge in this period are Will Penisini, Sean Russell, Haze Dunster, Jake Arthur, Oregon Kaufusi, and CharlieGuymer. Outside of that small group, there has been little sustained production of long-term first-graders, raising serious questions about the direction and effectiveness of the club’s development strategy under O’Neill.

In summary in the 8 years O'neill has been football manager, Parramatta only have 3 regular first graders in 2027 that have come through under him Penasini - Smith- Tuivaiti. Guymer isn't a regular top 17 player
3 players! Compared to clubs like the Panthers its a disgraceful comparison. None of the players brought through are anything above your average player. Are we going to stand for this ? Our club should be brimming with developed talent whether the be Parramatta juniors or brought into the club's systems through flegg and reserve grade
There's no elite talent, there's no players pushing for Origin or higher rep duties, there's zero, Nada, zilch.
This is exactly why Parramatta is where we are today, a failing club relying on the desperation of signing elite outside talent which will require extreme over payments to get here - its just not going to happen.
For mine unless there are changes in the Eels hierarchy, get ready for another 5 years in the bottom half of the competition.

Edwards is a meh signing but again, you are unlikely to get anyone decent mid year. We got lucky with Walker and Da Silva last year.

Though Chief, where was our junior system before MON got here? We had that small bracket where BA debuted Niukore, Salmon, Mahoney, Stone and Kaufusi as it would save his job to bring them along, but before that from say 2010-2018 we didn't have many juniors really do well either. Due to that we are seeing the punishment of neglecting our pathways.
Though your blog is not perfect, i agree overall with you that there has to be some sort of change somewhere compared to what we are currently doing. Not getting Galvin, KK or Barnett is embarrassing considering how open we are to wanting them.
But what i will also say Chief is that again you cherry pick in order to show how bad MON is and some things are not even him. Alex Twal for example was long gone before MON got here. But even then if we went to sign Twal before this year many here would have groaned that he is a plodder. It is only due to him having an out of the blue year at age 30 where people say "Of course we let him go" it is just pathetic.
Also, you said at the start "O'Neill's failure developing players". His job is not to develop juniors. That is the coaching. His job is to get players to the club, once they are there the coach then does what they are paid to do. So to say players did not develop from MON is quite frankly short sighted and again agenda driven.
But i can guarantee you, i would put my mortgage on it, that if BA was still in charge this blog would be targeting him not MON. But also, you are right that our juniors should be better but it was a problem before MON too.
Edwards fits the profile. Small middle with 50+ first grade games. Has anyone seen him play? Speculation at this point.
