Parramatta has started contract negotiations that could lead to gun halfback Mitch Moses being signed to the Eels for the rest of his NRL career.
Moses, who turns 28 in September, is under contract for 2023 and is expected to take up an option in his favour for 2024.
Discussions have now started for a new deal which could span a further three seasons – a deal which would see the brilliant halfback locked away until the end of 2027.
The overall deal would be worth more than $5m.
Moses would be aged 33 after the 2027 season. He may opt to continue for another year or decide to retire from the NRL.
While his contract value would be kept confidential, Moses could command around $1m to $1.2m a season on the open market.
Well-placed sources claim the Dolphins have made a gentle inquiry about Moses’ contract situation but no offer was lodged.
Contract talks between Moses and Parramatta are preliminary and both parties have considerable work to complete before any deal can be finalised.
There is a feeling that Moses and Parramatta are seeking the same outcome. The club has a strong relationship with Moses and his family.
Moses is known to be happy and content in a Parramatta side charging towards another top four finish. He recently bought a property in Sydney’s inner-west.
Parramatta declined to comment on Moses’ contract negotiations.
While Parramatta has lost Reed Mahoney (Bulldogs), Isaiah Papali’i (Wests Tigers), Marata Niukore (Warriors) and Ray Stone (Dolphins), Moses is said to be comforted that Clint Gutherson, Reagan Campbell-Gillard, Junior Paulo and Ryan Matterson have all signed long-term.
And Parramatta is also hopeful young five-eighth Dylan Brown, off contract after next season, will also re-sign before November 1. Brown and family are entrenched living in Sydney’s west.
Talks between Parramatta management and Brown have begun over a significant contract extension.
Moses, Brown and Gutherson would make up three-quarters of Parramatta’s spine long-term.
The Eels are also hopeful barnstorming Fijian winger Maika Sivo can be retained. There had been reports that European rugby union may be interested in Sivo.
The Eels also declined to comment on their contracts.
Moses was a standout yet again in Parramatta’s 28-20 win over Wests Tigers at Leichhardt Oval on Saturday night.
He scored a decisive try just after halftime and kicked four goals for an individual tally of 12 points.
Moses’ Eels have their next three games at CommBank Stadium against Warriors (round 18), Brisbane (round 19) and then Parramatta (round 20).
The Eels-Panthers game is on track to be a 30,000 sellout.

The beauty of this is that the club will have all these high priced players all on the cap z then we will have whingers saying why other club's can sign star players and parra can't .
Sounds like we are all in on Moses and Dylan
No plan B
We better get them or we will be in massive trouble and I bet both of their managers know it
Coryn out of interest if you could have Dylan or Munster for 1 million who would you pick for 4 years
Munster hands down.
Coryn I just worry about his all round game.
His kicking game is not good enough at the moment to take any pressure of Mitch.
His defense is brilliant and his running game is great but I don't think he runs enough
If we are currently in a window I would take Munster now
If we are going for a mini rebuild to look at a GF in 3-5 years it's Dylan
After 36 years I'm impatient
Fair enough Coryn
Some good points especially his age
He feels older because he has played so many games already.
I'm a big fan especially earlier in the year when he was running more.
I hope he develops a better kicking game
Yep, don't get cute now, don't overthink it. We've got our halves in place for the 5-7 years, they will only get better bother individually & collectively, if the rest of the team around them is good enough, they are good enough to win a title for us.
That's the key to long term, sustained success. Get your spine in place, as well as a couple of key middle forwards, lock em up long term, and then fill out the roster on 2-3 year contracts as you can with what you have left.
Let your edges, centres, wingers & depth players come and go as circumstances demand, bring in 3-5 young players into your top 30 every year, try to identify the best ones early and let the rest go.
For all our struggles this year, and there have been plenty as we know, there are at least ten other teams, probably more who wish they had what we have on their rosters.
Your too young to be impatient Jason and his kicking is showing signs of improvement.
If he was perfect we wouldn't be having this discussion, same goes for Moses.
Some post career incentives would not be a bad idea, Moses could handle any media /coaching career if that is his choice, likewise Dyllan has a family here and jobs/career training for brothers/sisters, even mum and dad's with family reunions bi annually would coincide with Parra promotions for NZ members being signed.....why would not Dyllan's family be ideal ambassaders for such a thing?......Think Parra, as Fong says there is more ways to skin a cat!
I agree Poppa that Moses could be a great kicking coach but not sure if we have the administration to think outside the box when it comes to incentives for Dylan to stay
You must have us confused with the Roosters
I will kill for a "benefactor" like uncle Nick at the Eels
We as a club would be unstoppable
I guess we must retain BA, in order to get Moses and Dylbags signatures.
