Just trying to understand the rule around the above date.
My understanding is no player under contract is allowed to negotiate a new deal untill after this date, unless the contracted player gets permission from their current club.
So with that in mind how does the Broncos Head coach get to have a meeting with a Melbourne player (Croft) before this date with no apparent penalty???
Evan Ben Ikin stated on his show that Bellamy must of given permission, to which we now know he didn't.
Am I missing something.

They can go talk to who ever they want. Just can't sign a new deal until November unless the club has given them permission to sign the new deal.

My understanding is that all contracts have an anniversary date of October 31. As a result a player with less than 12 months left on his contract by November 1st can begin to negotiate with any club.
In the case of Brodie Croft he has 1 year to run plus an option in his favour and so he may be able to negotiate by November 1
Notwithdtanding he needs to get permission to negotiate with more than 12 months on his contract and according to Bellamy he did not do that
This action further highlights why teams should never sign a player with an option in their favour. It is poor contract management in my view.
