I think Keating is a good worker and perhaps up to bench standard. However he is not the creative dummy half that all teams need. I see him more as a backrower being asked to play dummy half.
We made an impact with no name halves in 2009, but we had Kevvy Kingston driving the team. Even though he was coming off the bench his preence in the squad even had Matt Keating playing well.
If we had a good creative dummy half we would be a stronger proposition, even without a new halfback.

but disagree that we can be stronger without a halfback - a halfback is essential if we are to improve
He can play at fullback/halfback and hooker
In the early parts of the game when what was needed was good defence, Matt Keating came on and did his thing. When the opposition forwards began to tire, Kinga was brought on and his zippiness was used so effectively. He was very similar to PJ Marsh.
If we are to sign a halfback, I don't think MK will come under as much pressure. Him with Ant Mitchell could prove very effective I think.
Keating for years has proven that his defence is up to the standard of the NRL but his football brain, passing and his dummy are not.
I dont mind persisting with him but watching him and Morts last year kick the ball without thinking and giving up possession easily made me frustrated and i dont know how many times i cursed at my tv cause of them both.
he has had his time to shine and he hasn't simple as that.
McGuire to start and Ant as interchange.
Morts will play 6 with JT at 7 and Morts could always be an option at 9 if he doesn't work out in the halves but i think he will.
Spine;
1. Hayne
6. Morts
7. JT
9. Mcguire
14. Ant
And
Humble to push for a spot somewhere in the 17
With that spine we should win the comp and we will.
I would only persist to see what Kearney can make of his skill set. If it is still the same then ship him off to France.
Morts will improve more than MK will especially if he adds 5 - 10 kilos to his frame.
The addition of Thurston to our spine with McGuire and Mitchell working together would deliver us a premiership most certain.
And Humble reminds me a lot of Kurt Gidley when he was at his peak.
