Nelson Asofa-Solomona has turned his back on up to seven NRL clubs interested in his service, quitting the NRL to take up a full-time deal in boxing.

News.com.au can exclusively reveal the NRL’s biggest man has quit rugby league indefinitely to pursue his dream of becoming a heavyweight boxing champion.

The 115kg enforcer has also become the first off-contract player to shun the mega bucks of R360 and also the riches on offer in the English Super League.

The former Melbourne Storm forward has signed a full-time boxing deal and could earn up to $1m a year in his new sport.

Plans are already underway for a rugby league super fight with another high profile NRL behemoth.

          • Haha, Randy. I'm on board with that analogy. Other people are not in the controllable basket. If she wants "to walk", you open the door & tie a red ribbon around her. Ours has a long string though lol.

            • Hoe, it constantly amazes me how many folks see other autonomous humans as easy to control and manipulate. People come with many features and some of us can be wilful  creatures

              • Haha, Randy. I used to be constantly amazed at  how over-confident we tend to be in our belief structures. I too often slap myself, symbolically speaking, for making assumptions and over-reaching.

Over-Questioning has it's downsides though. Paralysis by analysis. But Truth Seekers inspire me more, and often are closer to reality.

That being said, humanity probably knows less than 1% of reality. We don't know what makes up 99% of the universe for starters or what happens inside a black hole. That giant thing that keeps our Milky Way intact. And then our minds and eyes interpret everything rather than see any object as it really is. That's a headspinner if you realize everything you see is an optical illusion. Not a pleasant thing to keep in mind. Especially for the "seeing is believing" crowd.

That's 101 for starters. Luckily, for many thinking is neither enjoyable nor required. We just "know". Vibes and "we just know". Phewww. Probably a good thing all things considered. Keeps us grounded. But also one reason there's so much extremist idealogical nonsense, fighting and wars. A tragedy or darkly comic irony in many ways. Oh well...

          • Yeah good point, if Lomax wanted to stay we keep him. But also i have heard Ryles was not too fussed, feeling the price for a Winger was too high.

    • Exactly.

Zero targets hit besides stopovers and retirees

    • Melbourne and Cronulla have bought no one. There are a number of other clubs like Parramatta who have only signed one or two players.

Fact is, there has been very little movement so far for next year across the whole league compared to previous seasons. No doubt, due in no small part, two new teams coming in the next 3 years and a whole new TV rights deal to be worked out. Clearly player managers are holding out to see how that all pans out before committing their players to make wholesale changes to their existing deals.

      • With a new team coming into the market, teams are prioritising keeping what they have and those who are on the market are using Perth as bait for higher wages.

It is the same as the market has been bare for a few years due to the cap going up year after year meaning teams can pay their players more each negotiation periods.

If more players are re-siging, less of a market of course. There is an addage in NFL and is the same here. When a player is a free agent there is always a reason why they are a free agent. The best players rarely ever come available as their teams do whatever it takes to keep them.

    • Parrafan101, are you a pessimist? With all due respect but everything is the worst thing in the world. We are not going to sign massive big names, well more than 1 as there is nothing on the roster. Has been that case for years. We are not an attractive club due to recent form.

Who that has been available for 2026 have we not signed that have gone elsewhere that you would say "He would have been great" Don't say Averillo.

I would love signings too, i always love signings but you don't sign for the sake of it. Yes the Pezet deal is how you going but low risk.

      • 101 is actually an optimist LB...102 is the pessimist

  • Not that I'm upset we didn't sign Nelson but since November 1 we have signed absolutely nobody. And everyone reporting we have so much money
