Nelson Asofa-Solomona has turned his back on up to seven NRL clubs interested in his service, quitting the NRL to take up a full-time deal in boxing.

News.com.au can exclusively reveal the NRL’s biggest man has quit rugby league indefinitely to pursue his dream of becoming a heavyweight boxing champion.

The 115kg enforcer has also become the first off-contract player to shun the mega bucks of R360 and also the riches on offer in the English Super League.

The former Melbourne Storm forward has signed a full-time boxing deal and could earn up to $1m a year in his new sport.

Plans are already underway for a rugby league super fight with another high profile NRL behemoth.

      • Averillo? 16 other teams didn't want him either.

        • Averillo is asking for big money, it's not his talent

          • Right, so one club couldn't negotiate to a comprimise? It is not that, Averillo's management would know that and he wouldn't get that money in SL.

        • I'd take Averillo in a heartbeat. Then we can put him at left centre and have Russell as depth winger/center.

          • Agree, and him wanting big money is not a surprise, hope we haven't missed because of price..... this is a game of monopoly at present, buy everything you want or need and only pass on the shit.....Averillo is not shit!

Worry about the cap maintenance after you have bought your "houses and motels"

The model is there, Gould essentially used this formula and then off loaded to balance the books, with a lot of leverage from their Sugar Daddy's as Hoe loves to call them.

PS This is a normal play in money market securities trading, I don't know about sports trading as I have no interest in US or European sport.

            • It's ugly but it's true.

              This is the way

    • So where is this money 💰 💰 going ? Into the super funds of admin, coaches

      • So what did you want, the club to spend 800k on nelson,  who can't get through one match without a sin bin?

        He's not even worth 500k

        • Exactly - if he wants start a career punching people rather than simply whacking his shoulder into their face, that's his choice. If he can earn $1m doing it, good luck to him. Ain't no way a footy club would be paying him that much. Not sure we can blame the club for this one.

          • This. Why are people upset... Oh Nelson wouldnt sign with Parra on $400K and turn down $1Mill a year doing something he is passionate about? Come on Parra! This is where we need our CEO and Head of Football to get these deals done. Throw him $400K and a Ford Ranger! Playing for the Jersey should be enough to throw away the other $500K a year.

            Lol.

"I agree with everything you've said but the end result, I think all that shows me that he has been chosen as the replacement. Tago wouldn't get an auto dev, he is not in demand and we would just negotiate a new deal if he went well. "
