We all know how inconsistent the MRC has been in referring players to the judiciary and also their inconsistent decisions. What disappointed me most was how lenient they were during the finals series with blatant favouritism shown to some (one) club in particular.
Two incidents that come to mind, and will probably stay in the mind of most parents, is knees in the back and then Kasiano flopping on Widdop. Who can forget is neck being bent under his body and then snapping back. Still sends shivers through me. Another incident, again involving the Dogs (really I am not trying to pick on them but they most come to mind) was when their second rower flopped onto sitting player putting pressure on his neck. How he didn't end up snapping his neck defies belief. Again nothing done. This was shortly after Junior suspension and I thought it was worse and also not an accident.
Now my biggest bugbear is knees in the back, almost NEVER gets bought to the judiciary. I remember the Dogs team of the 80s and their prop Peter 'knees in the back' Kelly (if I have the wrong bloke I apologise but think I am correct). Consistently did it without being penalised. It is usually let go because it is an 'accident'.
Well I'll let everyone here into a little secret. ALMOST EVERY INDESCRETION ON THE FIELD IS AN ACCIDENT!
Players don't go out there deliberately giving head high tackles or picking someone up and driving his head into the ground. They are all accidents.
It is about time the MRC and Judiciary penalise incidents like these before someone is seriously hurt. We don't need another player breaking his neck.
