Pops, agree on the defence 100%, well said.
Saturday was a good indication of how much work Ryley does himself & for those around him.
I have no doubt Ryley is well in the plans. Perhaps he's thinking, as EA mentioned, a Brandon Smith style hooker / lock, and Hopgood into front row rotation?
Ryley is very underrated, imo. Feel he's been a big part of our defensive turnaround.
Its all a far better problem to have moving forward than having Lussick on the field.
Yep. Smith fatigues himself because of how much defence he does. Sometimes by the 60th minute he has already made 40-50 tackles so needs a break.
Which will be impacting that run game & attack also.
I don't think we should be worried, Ryles clearly has a plan for these two in tandem & it's exciting to know we are moving further & further from the style of player & footy from previous seasons.
The Eels are already so much quicker, there is a far more attack-focussed mindset from anywhere on the field & with much better shape & depth, the defence & effort areas are worlds ahead, & this is all with a very inexperienced team, smashed with injuries / suspensions, and sitting about 3-4million under the cap.
Ryles is creating a new Eels DNA. It sucks losing & this year we'll have to live with that, but it's only going up from here. The Eels remind me a bit of the Fins a few years ago, they took time to gel with inexperience & new combos, but now their youth & speed in attack is unstoppable.
100% agree.
I am personally excited if Riley is used like Brandon Smith at Storm. It make sense watching his nugget running style during the junior grades. I also think that versatility is important if TDS only covers 9 as well as Walker (smaller forward/utlity) on the bench. Plus Moretti & Tuivita are not high minute forwards yet.
As you said JR would have a plan so excited to see the future.
Absolutely EA. Agree with all.
Was surprised to see how good a running game Ryley had in the highlights Badger posted yesterday.
If he can add a bit of size over the offseason he'll be set, has all the other attributes (although raw in parts).
Interesting that he played 6 and 7 for Panthers.
Yeah for sure, Meelk. Seems craftier than maybe he's getting credit for?
Good to see you posting, hope you've been ok?
I could very easily see Smith doing Walker's role after some time. He is a great runner of the ball, as seen with his time at Penrith.
Since Walker has worked so well in that role of course Ryles is going to want to keep that type of player at 14, only so many of that type in the comp so why not try Smith there.
LB, for all my wraps on Smith, I do not see him as a great runner of the ball, TDS is obviously that type of player.
Parramatta need Smith type give our middle defence. That's why I would be taking TDS to 5/8.....I cannot imagine that JR is thinking that though.....is he smart enought to buy a hooker to play 5/8? I am guessing not and I do not know what I am talking about.....but I will say what I think and be content to look stupid.
No doubt Chiefy will talk to Jason and iron out his PR for him and tell us all how good he is.
NB I wouldn't swap him (JR) for anyone else so that my critique is only relevant to the circumstances.
PS How come MON hasn't been blamed for this TDS purchase, he gets blamed for anything else that is fcuked up. Where are you Wiz, surely you can see MON has fcuked up.
If you see his highlights in SG ball and even Flegg for us last year he can run, not sure why we haven't seen it but getting the ball first receiver and asked to run might bring it out.
