You yell sign a player. I agree, however you cannot just sign anybody. We did sign a player in Edwards and Su'A, but that doesn't answer the SIGN A PLAYER claim?. I know Edwards is not a big name as that is what you want.
There are some decent names out there who are either available or could be available; Jenkins, Timoko, Tago, Xerri, Burton, Leniu. I mean getting say two of them is not bad business. I reckon we get one at least.
As for Dearden, it depends on how much he wants. He was the starting 7 for QLD and if not injury he would be the incumbent. Now we have Moses on $1.3m at the moment. What would Dearden cost? Roughly the same? Question is with so many needs in this team, particularly in the backs where we could need 3 starting quality backs and a quality forward, how much are we willing to spend on a 5/8? Burton, if we see him as a 5/8, at least would be slightly cheaper. But do we break out bank for Dearden, have nearly $3 mil of our cap on our halves and the rest could fall by the way side around them?
If we had some talented backs coming through, i could argue you can do that as they would be cheap and the halves make them even better. But we don't therefore to be somewhat competitive we need to spend on the market and need money to do so.
I would much rather for example get Jenkins, Tago and Leniu. Instead of just going Dearden and maybe get Jenkins. The latter is still not a bad haul but our back 5 is still roughly the same with just Jenkins and still need a quality middle.
Let's say we did sign Dearden and could only get Tago with Penrith pitching in, i would be fine with it of course. But getting 3-4 signings would be better. For what i would cost to get Dearden you could get Jenkins, Tago and some of Leniu's contract all in one go. Think about it. Is it really clueless or more so priorities? As i would not go for Dearden as he would cost $200-300k more than Burton at this stage and that money can be used for more crucial areas.
If you for example land the three i just mentioned, you could get away with Volkman at 6 and be competitive.
Parra need an influx of at least 3 players one in the middle and at least 2 outside backs that's the low tide in the recruitment stakes.
If we are still rolling out anything that looks half pie like we've got now it's going to be a long year next year also.
This squad is cooked there's bugger all physicality in the middle our back 5 yardage game is trash and we as a squad are just not athletic enough across the park.
That has to be the goal to get more athleticism and physicality within the squad.
God knows what the plan is at 6 I don't think the powers that be even no but anyway as above this team needs more talent that's the bottom line.
As for Deardon why would he come to Parra.I suspect the Cows will make him one of the most well paid halves in the game.

Parrafan how can you go from positive and i can feel we will get Burton, to just saying "we will be spooners for a long time" simply by a rumour of Dearden going to Souths. Like seriously some people. I would argue heavily backs are more crucial for us to address before 5/8. There are still some quality backs on the market. Now if they are off the market and none sign for us, then the panic button can be pushed.
I mean you said a few weeks ago you are 100% certain we get Burton. Well ok, if we have Burton like you think, why do we need Dearden? Why is it we are now spooners for not getting him, we have Burton?
The bipolar reaction of some people on here is ridiculous. I know it sucks but maybe wait til November the latest and see what we have. They could have 0 signings and we can be worried or they could have 2 done and another nearly ready to go. Plus as well, after the GF teams begin to cut dead wood to extend their current players. Players pop up and are available when you think they aren't. Not saying we should have to wait as we should have had players signed that we chased, but it is what it is.
Plus those saying 'SIGN A PLAYER' well we did. Two actually. Su'A and Edwards. You do not stipulate the quality just simply sign a player, any player it seems.
