Mitchell Moses is closing in on becoming just the second Eels player in history to achieve over 30 try assists in a season.

Moses notched his 27th, 28th and 29th try assists of the year in the Eels 36-12 win over the Titans, which puts him just one shy of joining Tim Smith in the record books.

“One more and he will be only the second Eel to have 30 try assists in a season,” Matt Russell said in commentary.

“The first was way back in 2005 when Tim Smith had 40.”

Corey Parker believes Moses is playing the best rugby league of his career and is a big reason for the side’s renaissance in 2019.

“Mitch Moses leads the competition comfortably in try assists,” Parker said after Moses set up a first half try for Manu Ma’u.

“That is his 28th try assist and this one off a kick for Ma’u. What a formidable right side combination they have formed.

“That is their 22nd try now. They are first in the competition for right side tries and it is off the back of that man Moses. He sums it up beautifully.”

Moses is one of only two men to run on and start every game for the Eels in 2019 with skipper Clint Gutherson.

He now leads the try assist category by six over the next best Luke Keary, who has 23.

“He has really had in my opinion his best season,” Parker said.

“He has been controlled. He has owned the team. The maturity he has shown in 2019 along with a few other players has been the difference.

“He has been the difference for the Parramatta Eels from where they were last year.”

Greg Alexander marvelled at Moses’ ability to use his kicking game to continuously make sides pay.

“20 of his try assists have been from kicks, which is an extraordinary amount,” Alexander added.

“He leads the try assists for the NRL and certainly the kick try assists.

“He’s had a busy game. His game has been based on his kicking game and it is deadly at the moment and it has been deadly all year.

“If you are clever enough to get the ball through the line with your grubbers you will come up with points and Moses has been able to do that all year.”

  • Tim Smith. That's a blast from the past. The bipolar alcoholic. He'd be living in the park by now.

  • You would have to be happy with the improvement in Moses this season, it has been gradual but steep. He is really starting to control games and he will on ly get better once he is playing behind a dominant forward pack. He is currently the form 7 in the comp and i highly doubt we would win a game with him missing.

  • Keary’s stats are very impressive considering how many games he’s missed.

    • They are but he had Cronk to help him out. Moses after Rd 2 had no one. Since Dylan's return, Mitch has found more breathing space to weave his wand.

If you had to chose the 2 NSW halves tomorrow I think most people would choose a Moses and Keary combo.

Leaps and bounds for Mitch this year. He's been brilliant in the 2nd half of the season. Pulled off a couple great "ball and all" 1-on-1 tackles today too.

  • Moses is great with time and space against retreating defences.  He won't get that against the Storm,Roosters or Souths.

    • You can't knock Moses for not playing good behind a beaten pack of fowards, judge him against the good teams when we have a dominant forward pack that can at least match these good teams.

  • I was surprised how quick he is when watching him live. He kept running sideways and even slightly backwards a few times last night, to get around defenders and he did every time.

  • Ahh Tim Smith! I actually felt forhim in the end. He had such a good passing and kicking game I thought he could have been anything had he been able to keep his head

  • Does Moses figure in dally m calculations this year? He was only 4 behind when the voting went behind closed doors - and of our last 7 or so wins he’s surely got a least a point in most of not all?
