Metcalf Dragons bound.

Bulldogs have pulled out of the race for Metcalf and his asking price is around 1 million dollars. Dragons most likely spot but to get him immediately I wonder if this means they will allow Sua to join us early to free up cap space to get Metcalf immediately. Just seems logical

    • 7 is the most important position on the field. You buy the best available option at the price you need to pay. I mean Flanagan or Metcalf? No brainer. 1m is not a crazy asking price

      • Yeah good point. It's Halfback tax. Half decent ones garner big money. If you don't have a Halfback a 7.5/10 one gets same as a 9/10 Halfback just by how important the position is. I beg Boyd nearly tripled his salary in his NZ extension basically just being a Halfback.

        • The bulldogs should of done everything to offload Burton for Metcalf.

  • Dragons paid 900k for Metcalf, 900k for Drinkwater, have Gutherson contracted still for next season at $900k, have Keaon on $1.2mil, Val on $700k. How? They have spent half their cap on 5 players? Is this good recruitment? They don't even have a head coach. Young was thrown to the wolves knowing he won't win a game this year.

"Long term contracts are too risky with props. It's very rare to see a prop at the top of his game year after year. Parra were right to not go the extra year on this occasion. I don't disagree sometimes you have to pay a bit extra to get the deal…"

"Yes, good points PG....someone like French has become more of power player based on his speed that he always had and then his filling out. Nikorama falls into that category as well and I am sure there are a number of others some can think up."

"I think you miss the point Adam in that metrics is a result, its identifying the body types and bringing the ones through that are being seen as succesful in this new age. Thats more the point of what the blog is about."
