Sounds like he reads 1EyedEel.
Yes a good solid statement which will receive all the cynisism that could only emanate from this site.
There is only so much one can say but I do note that the head coaching role is a definitively valued perception and something in those words says to me the winning candidate cannot be a "rookie" it just does not fit the "rhetoric" of what he/ they are asking for.
I am going to take a punt and say they are hanging off naming anyone until Origin is over and Maguire if he wins it, may just change the minds of the people on the selection commitee.
Previous discussions "null and void".
PS I am not advocating Maguire but if they are "fair dinkum" about their values statement then the only candidates can be McDermott, Cheika and Maguire. Culturally the others offer nothing that any assistant can handle.
Agree Pops, its a good statement & applaud him for it, but, the rookies really don't seem too, at least from our point of view, answer his expectations?
It's an interesting watch.
Well said NOS, Pops & Bluey below too.
Jim is not stupid. He's cognizant of the issues the club have. He would agree with many of our concerns beyond pathways even regarding our ageing issues and lack of resilience.
With that in mind, it makes a Rockstar Rookie P-plater, learning the ropes of head coaching without training wheels, a puzzling choice. Unwise IMO.
None of us are privvy to what's going on behind closed doors. But remember who the big dog is on the PNRL: McElduff. If the big dog sitting behind the curtains wants someone or something, he's likely to get it.
Unfortunately, we don't have what other boards or clubs have: rich sugar daddies behind the scenes working their agendas, billionaires, Hollywood glitz, or centuries of passionate diehards and former greats.
Another puzzling aspect is why we aren't looking for more competence in the club? Frankie mentioned Peter O'Sullivan. Someone like him, we desparately need.
I'm struggling to be optimistic, and fear Frankie's perspective may have too much truth to it, but have no choice but to hope for miracles whilst ready for the worst.
Exactly HOE, everything Jim has said, not the media, from the start of this process lends itself to a coach with experience.
It would make it puzzling if a rookie was appointed, but, in Frankie's & your own fears, it would establish we have problems that can't be solved under the current board.
I actually have no issue with Jim, not sure about McElduff & if he has the final say, it could answer a lot of Q's.
The words "new era" concern me that the Barbie candidates HOE talks about are where they are looking rather than an old school applicant. Although, they did try to get Skeletor. It's a toss up which way they go.
Well spotted Badger.
"New Era" hints at a New Era of the next "new" hot, young thing.
The irony is a rookie path is not new at all (Kearney, BA) & trend following; reactive.
I think it's about NRL reputation. Thus reducing apparant risks. It's better optics too. In a sense it's Ideologically driven and neoconservatism but also understandable.
Very good point, Badger.
I tried to read it, but I dozed off, so I'll just criticize it for the sake and criticizing it
Hahaha
