Lomax hires lawyers against Parramatta

Zac Lomax has reportedly engaged a lawyer in an attempt to secure an unconditional release from the Parramatta Eels so he can join the Melbourne Storm.

It’s believed his legal team will argue that the situation is unfair and that their client now simply wants to play rugby league — despite the fact that only weeks ago he indicated he didn’t want to play at all. Chasing money often comes with consequences.

It’s unclear which lawyer he has approached, but you can expect plenty complaints and noise to follow.

For mine Lomax fought against the Parramatta club in a bid to get out of the contract he chose to sign. This left the Eels in a no win situation, as  if we had forced Lomax to play against his will, that usually doesn't end well.  But Lomax left the club in a predicament, with more cap dollars with minimal recruitment opportunities available in his position.  We were banking on him to fulfil his 4 year deal.

We made the commitment,  he broke the commitment.   Either we get a like for like player from the Storm or its no deal Eddie.

    • non compete clauses are legal and relevant in this case

    • It's not a restriction of trade if he comes back to the NRL and plays with Parra as per his contract and release conditions.

its only a restriction if we don't let him sign with other teams and refuse to sign him ourselves, then we're restricting his trade.

      • The only problem with that is, we have used his money to buy Pezet and Kelly, plus more than likely upgraded some players, possibly juniors.  We might be forced to re-sign him, or release him. We might only be able to offer him half of what he was on, then the NRL will block it.

        • We used about half of dylan browns money to sign pezet for 1 year.

          • We have that money available to sign players for 2027 and beyond, including Lomax if we wanted to.

  • Let's see what sort of stuff V'landys is really made of. I'm hoping he surprises me. I won't hold my breath though, with Melbourne involved...

  • It would be in the NRL's best interest for the NRL to be providing Parramatta with whatever support it needs to defend this. Otherwise, V'Landy's 10 year threat is doomed if R360 does indeed get up.

  • He will be in the Melbourne colours 100%.

It's the vibe, it's the constitution, it's just the vibe...

    • Too much legal stuff behind it, the release was made with restrictions. If storm offer up a origin level player I'm sure a swap can be done tho. Can't be that difficult to work out a deal if they are that interested in him

      • Doesn't have to be an Origin player, I'd take any of the Storm's backline players on a multi-year contract to swap with Lomax. Coates, Warbrick, Howarth, Meaney... come on down!
