Parramatta hooker Reed Mahoney has been credited for rushing to the aid of a car crash victim on his way home from Sunday’s victory over Penrith at Panthers Stadium.
Mahoney was one of the first to jump out of his car when another vehicle lost control on the M4 in St Clair on Sunday night, smashing into the barrier and sliding into the middle of the road.
The young rake, who only a couple of hours earlier had helped the Eels to victory in their first match of the year against the Panthers, stayed with the driver until help arrived on the scene.
"Reed’s a terrific young bloke," chief executive Bernie Gurr said.
"We’re happy that he does a lot of good community work, so it doesn’t surprise us that he stopped to help a person in need.
"That’s the type person he is. That’s the type of person we want at the club. It’s a credit to him."

These are the stories that the media seem to stay away from. It would be great to fill this site with the positive stories. For evey negative story about NRL players there is 100's of feel good stories that never get mentioned.
I remember the paper used have league pull out section on Friday's and each game had a good story of a player. It was a good read and when fans get to know the players and understand them better there is bigger connection to them and the team. Would love to see something similar with indepth interview with 1 player on life outside footy each week.
The UFC does this very well with embedded and countdown TV docos leading into big fights to give insight into the individuals and their life outside the cage which generates more interest in the sport.
With a whole channel dedicated to nrl on foxtel, more effort should be made to showcase players and would love to see something like this. I know most clubs do things on their website and are unlikely to want to share their content as it brings advertising money in however it would help combat the negative stories.
Currently positive media exposure is restricted to appearances on TV shows where only couple minutes given outside regualr format to answer questions on life outside footy and needs to be changed. As part of the skills and job training of younger players the nrl should look to producing something. With access to fox sports and recording equipment surely their heap of players who would be interested in getting involved.
I agree FM. The NRL should provide the fans with better insights into the human side of the players.
I recently read an article whereby Brown mentionned how he and Taka had dinner with a couple of fans just so they can get to know them a little bit better. How cool would that be for the fans if this was transformed into a regular segment on Fox or on Channel nine.....and I am not talking about an interview with Fletch and Hindy here.

Axel i understand you liking the feel good stories but the only feel good stories about eels players im interested in is to read they are winning on the park, all the rest is fluff that im sick of reading about year after year.
I dont care how many good deeds these guys do, its all fluff and a distraction, none of it makes me think for a second our clubs one iota better than it is..
Weve spent too many years talking, blowing hot air, putting out feel good stories and fluffing it up, time for action.
Our club loves talking about community work because its got no winning to talk about.
I see where you're coming from Snake, and I don't think anyone on this site would argue with you about wanting to see the team win regularly; but would you rather read about an eels player making a fool of himself on a flight or a player helping an accident victim?
For the team to start winning, the culture must change - it starts right here with this new breed of players.
