  • Well it makes sense. They have Liddle signed til 2028. He is 31 next year. Watson for 2027 only. So Coinakis has a chance of being a 14 and even starting for Saints in 2028 if Liddle goes down, which he has been prone to do.

With us, he could have been 14, though maybe Ryles prefers Trey-Stewart and even Bell behind him in 2028 onwards. 2027 we have Smith and Edwards behind Da Silva.

  • Not too bothered. Da Silva is 21 and has dibs, and if anything the 14 for us needs to be able to play in the pack elsewhere.

With Ryley Smith still around, not sure when Coinakis would've got anything other than another Flegg season.

And he doesn't seem to be as rated by us as Fletcher and co.

Again, one of those where you can't keep them all.

  • This just shows that the junior conveyor belt is starting to work. This is exactly as it's designed to be. Bring young players through and if they are good enough they play NRL. If not, they go elsewhere. The club just needs to retain the right players. There will be players further down the line to take up the gap left by Coinakis.

    • If the eels were a publicly listed company you would all be buying in at the wrong time. This was being built two years ago and every man and his dog on here has been slagging off at the club without a clue as to what's actually happening and giving the club the time it needs to execute the plan.

      • If the Eels were a publicly listed company and people were trying to say "it's all part of the plan" after the CEO just got tapped on the shoulder closely followed by the Head of Recruitment we'd be calling them crazy!

FWIW I do agree our pathways have some strength to them, but we also have a history of overestimating our own nursery and losing some of the good ones so the scepticism is pretty normal and probably prudent.

        • I'm in the process of buying residential real estate as we speak. Do you know what counterintuitive means? Management turnover is a constant, it should take place on a regular basis and is healthy.

          • I agree completely that management turnover should be constant. And yet the ego of executives means it is very common for it to be a forced hand when someone has held on too long and things have started to go a little sour. Jim did wonders for our finances and our corporate governance, he was the leader we needed after the government appointed administration. That situation was resolved and settled over 5 years ago - that was the time for Jim to go out on top. In the meantime our actual football (pathways, recruitment, retention, first grade, coaching) have been close to dismal.

I'll speak glowingly about our clubs finances and governance. Likewise I'm going to be honest about our football situation. It has not been well managed, it is not in a good place, and Jim was moved on because of it.

Counterintuitive is slowing down your thinking to speed up the outcome. Having faith in a proven failed plan isn't counterintuition, it's is just plain bad strategy. Of course we haven't got it all wrong, but a stopped clock is right twice a day.

  • It's positive signs here we are seeing an actual move in the right direction regarding our football side governance with regards to whose being let go and why about time I say. They've been good for somethings poor for others and that's fine at least our chairman has recognised this and is looking to add more in the weak areas.

As for this young fulla being let go it speaks volumes really our follow through and transference of top tier talent vs the rest of the league the last 2-3 years hasn't been upto it and what we've had befor and let go there just hasn't been enough of it.We need more.

  • I have had a fair bit to do with Lachy over past 5 years.  He is an excellent defender, rearly misses, can churn out big minutes as well. But I think his attack is not great.  He has almost ZERO running game , can kick short or long and brings most of the line speed but It s the lack of running game that will ultimately decide his future.  He is a very cheap and very raw version of McGuiness who tackled everything and everyone.   But the modern dummy half MUST have a running game and abillity to mix it up when required.  Probably play NRL eventually at Dragons.

"We certainly don't need Turnstile Talagi back at Parra. If Penref couldn't fix his defensive issues, no one can.
As for Peter Gentle, this seems like a typical Parra signing."
