Leeds: Former Parramatta coach Brad Arthur says he’s a better coach now than the one who was sacked by the Eels last year, admitting it was time for both him and the club to go their separate ways.“A lot of people said I looked relieved and happy,…

💯 NoS that narrative does need to change.I just feel props not the position to do it is all that amount of cap spend.I think in the spine yes but if your knocking on the door of the mill per season for a player it's got to Payne Haas type of talent and I'm not sure Kolomatangi is in that class  of a Haas Tino Tapine class as I think that's the only guys I'd open the chequebook that high for.
A guy I really like or talent I like is a Moses Leota type which hopefully we have in Sam Tuivaiti Luca Moretti type.I think next year is a big year for the both of those guys because if they don't look like it Jnr is done and we definitely need to find that guy upfront.

Very fair points, Coryn.
I actually hold Keon in a similar class, or very close to Tino (currently) & maybe slightly under Tapine, Haas is just on another planet.Â
But 100% that is subjective & respect what you are saying for sure.
For the record I am a big of Moretti, he could be the one, though just doesn't appear like a big minute player genetically? Goes hard though.Â
Nightmare Off-SeasonÂ
Hi Nos, I have probably misread/interpreted this but the wording implies the R&R provide the player the coach wants. I honestly don't think it would work that way.....this would be a MON /RYLES exercise with a financial overview from Saratinos.
My guess and I stress guess is the manager approaches in a broad sense Mon who in turn discusses with Ryles and maybe Jim as a courtesy, IF all the postives come to this point, then Mon approaches the manager in a generalised sense with the view to an appoinments/meeting with the Manager and Player or even Ryles making a direct approach.
Once Ryles is convinced he is the right choice, the discussion would be "how much and how keen".
R&R I do not think have a bigger/ or more necessary say, especially Mon who may still do the contractual aspects at a due point.......so I suppose I am saying that R&R cannot ensure they provide the coach with anything of an elite player he wants. Ryles is the only person who will convince a player that coming to Parra will enhance his playing and expectations.
The price then becomes the pertinent aspect and that is ultimately a financial question that R&R cannot deliver either, just the "bean counters".
Key issues are elite player but I suspect the way our pathways are being structured, then Ryles will also be heavily involved in the non elite processes as well.
In the Johns and sons Podcast, Ryles admitted that the R&R involvement and how difficult it could be was the most difficult "changing exercise from being an assistant/ to Head Coach.
I say this with respect to you but felt it needs to be said as we had one of our members saying saying "comeon MON you Clown, make it happen"...../.in this case and most others for that matter, I think the Clown has to bow to the Ringmaster.
Hey Pops,
Great post. Ryles would obviously have to have a huge impact on a player 'wanting to be here' as you say, he'd be a large part of that pitch & strategy process.
I could be very wrong Pops, but in the past at the Eels we've seen the coach & R&R (Jim S) not agree on contract worth, and we've not kept or recruited a player the coach wants?Â
If you look at the Bulldogs, Phil Gould has had a huge claim in player recruitment, possibly far more than Ciraldo. Of course, Ciraldo would have to agree & sign off on it, but from all reports its Gould who is delivering?
Again, I could be off Pops. Either way, if Ryles wants Keon, lets hope he, R&R & Jim S can all deliver him to Parra. If he doesn't want him, then for sure, I'd trust it.

Nightmare Off-Season Always enjoy our convo's mate.
I think we are on the same track and I am probably heading outside of generalisations. i.e. Head of Football in say Gould's case and some other responsibility in Mon's case although carrying a similar title.
Maybe I am being protective of Mon's but I have believed for a long time that he was powerless in the face of BA and through circumstnces a different type of disempowerment with Ryles.
I did believe that his time was up at the same time as BA's but the club would have been totally bereft of football knowledge at that point.....I can only feel that Mon's continuing to be there, albeit with the same title is a misnomer from the perspective that he is "not a HOF"Â
You made a mention of Gould and Ciraldo's respective role's in the process and I see the obviously different empowerment processes.
In summary I don't believe we have serious R&R because you need that negotiator with a "big set" ready to argue and fight for the views you present. Bellamey may have a final say and meet with the player but when you get down to nuts and bolts Frank Ponnissi would seemed to be much more accomplished in arguing the detail.
Sort of job I would like to have with Wiz......could you imagine us arguing with the player and his manager as wiz and me, belt the shit out of each other.....as you imply in your response to Adam hereunder, passion and intangibles relating to selection of anyone is hard to put down to a formula.
It makes me cringe when people start saying let's throw the kitchen sink at such and such, just pay whatever it takes to make it happen.
The same was said about Galvin - we should offer $1million plus. Â Player contracts is the one aspect of the business we need to be ultra conservative and resolute. Â There's big trouble on the horizon when we start acting out of desperation or over paying for players.
I understand your angle, and some fair points for sure, you don’t want to see the Eels make the same mistakes as in the past. Absolutely.
