      • Thing that people thought he was actually coaching when being an assistant and being a HC are completely different jobs. For example i reckon Adam O'Brien would be an amazing assistant coach. Newcastle's defence for a period was incredible and quite frankly made them competitive more often. But people will put his head coach record as a reason to no. If he was hired as head coach then different story but as an assistant coaches have a different skill set and requirements.

The best thing about these hires are there would be no undermining. Moa might eventually want to be an NRL head coach, Wisemental hasn't really held a HC job in Rugby so not sure he would in NRL and Brown is adament he never wants to be a HC again. So it will be pretty continuous for the future and all still reletively young with a mixture of experience. Brown as a HC and player, Wisemantel as an assistant in Rugby so has coaching experience in general and Moa some in SL and playing.

Sometimes it is not about hiring the best it is hiring the right fit, these coaches nonetheless are the right fit.

        • 100% Agree, just look at Jason Taylor, would love to have him as an assistant coach, would never let him be a head coach again.

  • Agree with 80% here of the awards; but I have to ask how Moses got players player? Obviously this is a players choice, but I would have thought JAC or even R Smith but who knows how this is voted on.

I also question how Matterson was left out of coaches award?

    • Looks like Matterson is coming back. He's on the list of departing players from the Warrington wolves

      • Did he even play a game there? I've been to the Halliwell Jones too by the way - it's a great ground with a brilliant atmosphere.

        • He played on the weekend, it was on Fox around midnight Saturday night i think. I watched him play, even he looked disgusted with the defensive abilities of his team. I saw him on more than one occasion (after his team conceded yet another soft try) hang his head as if to say "is this what my life has come to?"

Who knows, it may be a wake up call for him to make him realise how good he has it in the NRL & he'll come back & work for a living, i doubt it but you never know.

          • Ah rightio. I haven't seen much of Warrington this year. I think they are finding out very quickly that their experiment of appointing an unproven, inexperienced head coach in Sam Burgess was a mistake. A bit like the Sydney Swans recruiting Gary Buckenara as coach in the early 90s (for those that are as old as me). It took them years to undo the mess he created for the club. I would have also included Ron Hilditch in that company too, but he was already an abject failure at the Illawarra Steelers before he came to destroy Parramatta.

            • I was thinking the same thing, although if he does, i hope Ryles says to himself "I've seen this movie before" and doesn't fall into the trap of signing him for a few more years.

          • I still believe he has something left in him. The culture under Gutherson and Gutho's off field theatrics meant money came first and foremost before the team and befoore club, and feel Matterson made bad decisions because of it.

Being a contract year will be motivation for Matterson to get back to his best.

      • Ive heard along the Chinese whisper telegrams , there's a dick swinging comp going on over salaries.  He wants to lose nothing even though there's potential to extend his career .

It seems like he thinks sticking to his guns that Parramatta will crumble , he'll then get to potentially extend his career and get paid in full for 2026 .  The alternative is to sit in Reggie's and earn 650k a year .

to be fair , the power is totality in Mattersons favour , he has a silly deal we gave him and he's entitled to it , even if he hasn't held up his side of the bargain , personally I couldn't sit and play the game he's playing when the clubs been more then good to him .  He's ethically bankrupt so he'll probably win.  You'd rather sit in the stands than lose a few grand for the club then who's seriously going to expect him to put anything above money now ?

The guys literally got no shame , he's tried to go back to East's on more then one occasion and they want zero part of it.

He'll never get an NRL gig again after the rumours of his attitude in 2025  are circulating.
